The 2023 Chevy Colorado Hits the Scene ‘Enhanced in Every Way’
After years of anticipation, the next generation Chevrolet Colorado has been fully unveiled to the public. And now we finally have the full story on what GM’s next generation midsize truck offers. Here is everything you need to know about the 2023 Chevy Colorado.
A stark visual design
The global vice president of Chevrolet said the new midsize pickup truck was “enhanced in every way.” Upon first glance, it is no surprise that the biggest change is the design. The entire truck was redesigned from the ground up with brand new body panels and a new interior.
The Colorado largely remained the same since the 2015 model year. In that time, the truck market moved on from swooping lines to a more aggressive styling across the board; it seems the 2023 Chevy Colorado follows that design language.
For the interior, the Colorado sports an 11.3-inch diagonal color infotainment screen standard across all trim levels. The Colorado also features a standard 8-inch digital instrument display on the dash across every trim level.
2023 Chevy Colorado’s tailored interiors
The Colorado’s redesign continues with differentiating interior designs that match its specific trim levels. For the Work Truck and Trail Boss trim, the interior has a unique rugged appearance to complement the truck’s utilitarian aspects. For the LT trim, the interior takes on bright silver accents with soft-wrapped trim and premium wrapped steering wheel for a luxurious aesthetic. The Z71 trim is outfitted with black and red accents and unique upholstery.
The Colorado’s new powertrain
The 2023 Chevy Colorado offers only one engine option, a 2.7L turbo four-cylinder engine. This one four-cylinder engine is offered with a standard output of 237 horsepower, and a 2.7L Turbo “Plus” and a 2.7L Turbo “High-Output”; both make 310 hp. These engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, resulting in smoother shifting and a greater feeling of power on demand.
This powertrain also comes with five selectable drive modes. These are:
- Normal: A balanced mode for commuting
- Tow/Haul: Calibrations are added for optimal towing conditions
- Off-Road: Performance features are activated and tailored for off-road driving
- Terrain: Design for low-speed rock crawling and precise throttle control
- Baja: Developed for high speed, off-road, desert running
Chevy’s new midsize pickup truck
Like the previous generation Colorado, the next generation has the Colorado ZR2 and the Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss. First introduced as a concept truck, it was met with much praise. Then, it entered production in 2017.
The 2023 ZR2 comes standard with a spray-on bed liner, high clearance front fascia, modified front and rear bumpers; cast-iron control arms, front and rear locking differentials, aluminum skid plates, rocker panel protection, and a 3.42 ratio rear axle.
The ZR2 Desert Boss trim takes the ZR2’s features and adds 17-inch Beadlock capable wheels, a sports bar with a sail panel; a roof-mounted light bar, an underbody camera, and a unique front fascia and rear bumper.
The 2023 Colorado’s price is not available yet. With production at the GM Wentzville, Missouri assembly, the truck is scheduled for an early 2023 release.
