The 2023 Chevy Tahoe Blazes Past the Ford Expedition
For years the Ford Expedition has been the king of its class. No other three-row family SUVs have come close to matching its strength, comfort, and quality. However, the Chevrolet Tahoe is making a comeback. The 2023 Chevy Tahoe is actually outselling the 2023 Ford Expedition.
2023 Chevy Tahoe vs. 2023 Ford Expedition
The official numbers for the first quarter of the year are in, and according to Ford Authority, the 2023 Chevy Tahoe is selling more units than the 2023 Ford Expedition. The Tahoe moved 27,257 models in the first quarter of 2023.
This is roughly a 14% increase compared to the first quarter of 2022, when the Tahoe sold about 23,979 models. It has a 36% market share.
During the first quarter of 2023, the Ford Expedition sold 19,359 models. This represents a 99% sales increase compared to the first quarter of 2022, when it moved 9,718 units. It has 14% of the market share.
So the Expedition might be behind the Tahoe, but not by much. Also, it gained a huge increase in sales with plenty of time to catch up this year.
Is the 2023 Expedition bigger than the 2023 Tahoe?
The 2023 Chevy Tahoe and the 2023 Ford Expedition are pretty close in size. The Tahoe is about an inch longer and wider than the regular Expedition. But the Expedition Max adds plenty of cargo space.
The Tahoe provides a little extra passenger space. It provides extra headspace in the front row and a little more legroom in the third row. The differences are pretty small. For example, the second row of the Expedition has 41.5 inches of legroom, and the Tahoe provides 42.0 inches.
With the Expedition, you get 20.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, with up to 104.6 cubic feet overall. The Tahoe provides 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row with up to 122.9 cubes total.
While the Tahoe has more cargo space overall, storage bins are limited. The center console is tight, but the seat pockets are generous. The Expedition has larger bings and more versatility.
Also, the Expedition can tow up to 9,300 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,827 lbs. The Tahoe can tow up to 8,400 lbs and can carry a payload of up to 1,927 lbs.
Is the Tahoe more comfortable than the Expedition?
The 2023 Ford Expedition is a bit more comfortable than the 2023 Chevy Tahoe. The Expedition has more responsive steering and doesn’t feel as large as the Tahoe. But SUVs could use more confident brakes.
Also, the Expedition is more peaceful. It has a smoother ride over the pavement with a quieter cabin. Wind and road noise is noticeable in the Tahoe, and the ride is bumpier. Both SUVs have an effective climate control system.
Last but not least, the Expedition has more comfortable seats. The seats in each room feel plush and well-padded. The Tahoe seats are hard and lack padding for longer drives. It might be easier to install child seats in the Expedition as well.
So, the Tahoe offers a little more space than the Expedition and can carry a slightly larger payload. But the Expedition is close in size with a stronger towing capacity and more comfort.
