The 2023 Chevy Traverse Is a Worthy Kia Telluride Opponent
It’s time to give the Chevrolet Traverse another look. We know that the Kia Telluride has been the best-ranking SUV for years, but there are plenty of other great options sitting slightly outside of the spotlight. Check out what the 2023 Chevy Traverse has on the 2023 Kia Telluride.
2023 Chevy Traverse vs. 2023 Kia Telluride
While the 2023 Chevy Traverse and 2023 Kia Telluride are both great three-row family SUVs to consider, we feel like the Traverse might be getting overlooked. This is a little unfair because it has tons of value to offer against the Telluride.
It has a robust engine, smooth ride, responsive handling, tons of passenger space, plenty of passenger room, and intuitive tech.
You can get started with a 2023 Traverse for about $34,520, and the top-spec High Country trim takes the price up to $52,000. The 2023 Telluride kicks things off at around $35,690, and the SX-P Pro crests at $52,785.
Does the Traverse or Telluride have a better performance?
The 2023 Chevy Traverse has a 3.6-liter V6 engine with 310 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.8 seconds. It can tow up to 5,000 lb when properly equipped.
With the 2023 Kia Telluride, you get a 3.8-liter V6 engine that cranks out 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.5 seconds. Also, the Telluride can tow up to 5,500 lbs. But 500 lb isn’t much of a difference.
The Traverse gets an EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and up to 27 mpg on the highway. The Telluride receives an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 26 mpg on the highway.
Both options have a peacefully quiet interior. But the Traverse has a smoother ride on the road, and the Telluride is a bit stiffer.
The Traverse has a peppier acceleration, more responsive handling, and confident brakes. The Telluride can feel a little lumbering around curves.
Both SUVs offer all-wheel drive, but the Traverse only has a 7.5-inch ground clearance. The Telluride sits at 8.4 inches above the ground. The Traverse has driving modes for Off-Road Terrain and Snow/Ice, while the Telluride has AWD lock and a Snow mode.
Does the Traverse or Telluride have better features?
The 2023 Chevy Traverse provides 23.0 cubic feet of cargo space in the rear and up to 98.2 cubes in total. The 2023 Kia Telluride has 21.0 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third row with up to 87.0 cubes total.
While the Telluride has more passenger space, the Traverse has more storage space. Plenty of cubbies and trays fill the cabin.
A standard 7.0-inch infotainment screen comes with the Traverse, and you can upgrade to an 8.0-inch screen. The Telluride has a 12.3-inch screen. Both offer a wireless charging pad, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, and a power liftgate.
But the Traverse has an optional power-folding third row, and the Telluride offers a head-up display.
The Telluride may have a higher interior quality and is the better choice for off-roading. But the Traverse has a more engaging experience, a more comfortable ride, and more cargo space.
