If you’re looking for a three-row SUV, the Traverse is worth considering. Chevrolet gave this midsize crossover an overhaul for the 2022 model year, so the 2023 Chevy Traverse doesn’t offer much new. But if you’re new to this model, there’s plenty to like.

The Traverse has five trims: LS, LT, RS, Premier, and High Country. The base-model LS starts at $34,520 and has a 3.6-liter V6 engine making 310 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. Every trim comes with this powertrain, according to Chevrolet. Each has front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive and the same spacious cabin and cargo area, distinguishing the Traverse from its rivals.

What separates the LS from the LT ($37,045), RS ($45,045), Premier ($47,200), and High Country ($52,000) — besides price — is their selection of features. The higher the price, the more amenities you’ll get.

But Android smartphone users might be most interested in the Traverse’s connectivity features.

The 2023 Chevy Traverse provides Android Auto integration. All trims also support wireless Android Auto. This Android-produced software application allows you to manage your smartphone through the vehicle’s infotainment system controls or voice commands. When connecting your smartphone, the SUV’s infotainment screen will mirror your device, allowing you to manage calls and device functions while driving.

At first, Android Auto required drivers to connect their smartphones to their cars using a USB cable. But now, some vehicles support wireless Android Auto. The program connects your phone and vehicle through Wi-Fi. This way, you don’t need to worry about fumbling with a USB cable when you want to use Android Auto. However, connecting to Android Auto with a USB cable allows you to charge your phone at the same time. So although wireless Android Auto is a convenience, you’ll want to ensure you don’t expend too much of your phone’s battery life while using the feature.

And with the latest version — Android Auto 8 — you’ll have software free of many of the bugs that have plagued earlier iterations. According to Android Central, Google says this latest version will feature a split-screen mode that promises to be more user-friendly for drivers trying to navigate their apps while operating their vehicles. You’ll see your favorite apps on one screen and the one you’re using on the other. Unfortunately, though Android Auto 8 is available, this feature is nowhere to be found yet.

Other features you can expect in the 2023 Chevy Traverse

You’ll find wireless Android Auto in all 2023 Chevy Traverse trims. The base-model LS also features tri-zone climate control, a 7.0-inch touchscreen, a six-speaker sound system, a rear-vision camera, and Chevy Safety Assist — the automaker’s suite of advanced driver-assistance systems. It includes automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, and lane-keeping assistance on all models. But higher trims, starting with the LT, provide even more features.

The LT includes the LS’s amenities in addition to an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, silver aluminum wheels, lane change alerts, and rear cross-traffic alerts. Depending on your preference, the LT is also available with cloth or leather upholstery. If you choose the LT Leather model ($40,740), Chevy will throw in a 4.2-inch driver information screen and a programmable power liftgate.

The Traverse RS trim comes with attractive black accents, 20-inch wheels (rather than the LS and LT’s 18-inch wheels), and a 10-speaker audio system. Chevrolet has also added several advanced safety features to the RS, including adaptive cruise control, rear pedestrian alerts, and a surround-vision camera.

The Premier trim builds on the RS’s features with built-in navigation, a hands-free power liftgate, memory power seating and steering, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen.

Finally, the High Country trim offers the above features, plus specialty exterior and interior accents, a power-folding third row, and a dual-panel sunroof.
