In the early ’50s, Chevrolet was going through a sales slump and eager to reverse course to stay in business. So in 1953, the automaker released the Corvette to a warm reception. It was an inauspicious start for the model that became America’s dream car and one of the brand’s best products. From the C1 to the C8, this Chevy has continued dazzling consumers. But 2023 Corvette owners think three areas need improving.

Drivers complain that getting in and out of the car is challenging

Ground clearance refers to the distance between the lowest part of a car and the ground. Full-size SUVs and trucks typically have a higher ground clearance of 13 inches or more because they’re designed to carry heavy loads and drive off-road. Meanwhile, sports cars are made for speed, so they have lower ground clearance.

In the Corvette’s case, the 2023 Stingray has a ride height of 5.3 inches. That’s standard for a sports car, but it can still pose significant issues when entering and exiting it. Because the Vette sits low, riders must bend their knees more to sit or stand. That can be problematic for people with limited mobility, such as those with joint issues, larger body sizes, or older adults.

Although this is a valid complaint, measuring the ease of getting in and out of a car is challenging because it’s mostly subjective. The 2023 Corvette scored a nearly perfect J.D. Power rating for the driving experience. It boasts an 89/100 for vehicle design performance and comfort. However, automotive reviewers have also knocked this car for its front access. That’s not unexpected, considering the Vette is a sports car.

Corvette owners rate the car low for ease of maneuvering it in traffic and tight spaces

The Corvette’s 5.3-inch ride height doesn’t allow the car to shine much. Most people who choose SUVs do so because of visibility. A higher ride position enables the driver to see farther down the road, allowing them to avoid potholes, traffic, and other obstacles. The Corvette’s low-slung body and long hood can hamper outward visibility, making accurately judging distances to objects difficult.

Its low ground clearance also makes it difficult to maneuver safely in and out of traffic and tight parking spaces without risking scraping the undercarriage or front bumper on speed bumps or curbs. Additionally, the 2023 Corvette has a turning radius of 38.1 feet, which isn’t ideal for navigating tight spaces.

A car that can make tight turns increases productivity and safety and enhances the driving experience. The lower the turning radius (34 feet or lower), the smoother the turns. Meanwhile, a larger turning radius requires more effort, resulting in difficulty maneuvering in and out of cramped spots.

2023 Corvette owners also knock the steering and handling in slippery conditions

The 2023 Chevy Corvette Stingray packs a potent 6.2-liter V8 engine harnessing 490 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. This significant torque usually gets sent to the rear wheels, which can cause them to slip in slick conditions. That also causes difficulty in maintaining traction.

Again, this 2023 Corvette owner complaint might be subjective, depending on driving styles. The car scores highly in J.D. Power Quality & Reliability and Driving Experience tests. It received a 93/100 in Quality & Reliability and 89/100 in Driving Experience. Additionally, automotive experts have given the C8 Corvette high marks in emergency and routine handling.
