If you’re thinking about ordering a 2023 Corvette Z06 there is a lot to consider. No, we’re not talking about options, payments, huge price markups, and those types of things. We’re talking huge waitlists with Corvette dealers now begging callers to leave them alone. Yes, it’s a big mess.

One Corvette dealership has 1087 Z06 deposits already

Things got so bad that in July Chevrolet stopped dealers from taking orders. It only opened them once again last month. That happened after Chevrolet increased production numbers partially due to smoother assembly than first anticipated.

One Twitter post from the Wholesale Car Club Facebook group says he was told three to four years was the expected waiting time. That means 2025, which seems like eons from now. What else might be available by then? Like, maybe a ZR1 or Zora Corvette? Or will those get canceled in the electric vehicle zeitgeist?

A Chevrolet spokesperson told Motor1, “We had previously shared with dealers and the public that we had accepted enough Z06 orders to fill the number of Z06 production slots we had for the calendar year 2022. So we stopped elevating dealer orders to accepted orders that the plant would build. Now, we are saying we’re going to accept more dealer orders to continue filling the pipeline of Z06 production through the end of the model year 2023.”

Some sources report that certain Corvette dealers are asking people to stop calling about the Z06. Their allocations from Chevy mean orders will be pushed off for years. One, in particular, appears to be Ciocca Corvette in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

This dealer also claims to be the largest Corvette dealer in the world. How many of these are there anyway? It says that salespeople have been bombarded with orders and questions, and it is disrupting making actual sales. When it does get its Z06 allotment, it and other dealerships maintain they’ll stick to MSRP and not gouge.

But if you want a Z06, we would advise calling different dealers to see what their wait times are and how much of a deposit is necessary. Some dealers began taking orders months ago and have a very long waiting list. This is even after those extra order slots have been filled.

With the frenzy over all C8 Corvettes, these latest tales were expected. With all of the sub-assemblies produced by outside contractors, it seems that Chevy is only able to produce so many. So it’s not about adding a shift or expanding the assembly line.

We know this is a nice situation for Chevy to have. It is so happy that it intends to make Corvette a sub-brand by adding an electric SUV and four-door sedan.
