Dodge promised a big sendoff for the beloved Challenger and Charger. We have to say, the first of the “Last Call” models looks really promising. Mopar muscle fans and connoisseurs of classic aesthetics rejoice; this Last Call is a Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack Shaker with a cool name. Here’s what we know about the 2023 Dodge Challenger Shakedown. 

What is the Shakedown?

The Shakedown is one of Dodge’s seven upcoming Last Call models. The marque intends to use the special edition cars to celebrate and send off the popular Challenger and Charger cars before the 2024 model year. As you might expect, the Challenger R/T Scat Pack Shakedown will be few in number; Dodge plans to release just 1,000 of them between the standard and Widebody. 

First, the Shakedown gets a special livery. It will feature red and black stripes with matching upholstery. Car and Driver says the color palette is inspired by a 2016 Shakedown Concept. The Last Call Challenger also gets a series of “Shakedown” badges inside and out, as well as appropriately crimson seat belts. Finally, all Shakedown cars will feature the Dodge Technology and Plus packages, as well as carbon fiber trim. 

What is a Dodge shaker?

The new car and all outgoing Challenger Shaker models feature the coolest muscle car throwback on the market: the shaker hood. It’s a portion of the intake assembly that protrudes through a cutout in the hood. As the engine idles, the shaker assembly moves back and forth, hence the name “shaker.” However, not all shakers are the same; Dodge offers the shaker on both the R/T 5.7L car and the Scat Pack with its 6.4L V8. 

How much is the 2023 Dodge Challenger Shakedown?

The 1,000 2023 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack Shakedowns are collectible, numbered cars. Still, they likely won’t cost too much more than the standard R/T Scat Packs. Car and Driver reports that the new Last Call model will probably be between $55,000 and $65,000, with the Widebody demanding more. However, getting your name on the waiting list might be tricky with a car this exclusive. 

Why is the 2023 Dodge Challenger Shakedown a Scat Pack?

Dodge rightfully chose the R/T Scat Pack for this Last Call model. First, the Challenger Shaker is the most retro-inspired muscle car on the market. Next, the R/T Scat Pack and its 485-horsepower 6.4L V8 is the most potent naturally aspirated engine in Dodge’s library. The formula is foolproof; old school looks, old school grunt. 

How many Last Call models are there?

While the black and red Shakedown is a fitting send-off for the Dodge Challenger, it’s not the last of the Last Calls. Instead, Dodge will release seven of the swansong special editions, split between the Challenger and Charger. Perhaps the most exciting upcoming model is the rumored Dodge Challenger with a Demon-beating 900-plus horsepower. Either way, Dodge seems to be celebrating the muscle cars’ last birthday in a big way.
