Despite being a popular choice among midsize SUVs, the 2023 Dodge Durango has failed to secure a perfect rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The NHTSA evaluates vehicles based on their performance in various crash tests, including frontal crashes, side crashes, and rollovers. These tests assess how well a vehicle protects its occupants in the event of a collision.

Dodge Durango’s consistent 4/5 rating from NHTSA

The 2023 Dodge Durango, a midsize SUV from the American automaker, has once again failed to achieve a perfect safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This is not a new trend for the Durango, as the model has consistently received an overall rating of four stars for the past few years.

The NHTSA evaluates vehicles on several parameters, such as frontal crash, side crash, rollover resistance, and pedestrian safety. While the Durango has performed well in some of these tests, it has fallen short of the coveted five-star rating in the overall evaluation.

The Durango comes equipped with a suite of safety features that include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring. However, these features have not been enough to secure the highest rating from the NHTSA.

The Durango offers ample space for passengers and cargo, and its powerful engine options make it a capable performer on and off-road. However, for those who prioritize safety above all else, it is worth considering other options that have achieved a higher safety rating from the NHTSA.

There is room for improvement for the 2023 Dodge Durango

While a 4 out of 5 overall rating from the NHTSA is certainly a good score, it would be great to see Dodge take steps to improve the Durango’s safety performance to earn a perfect 5 out of 5 rating.

One aspect that has been identified as an area for improvement is the Durango’s rollover risk. The NHTSA gave the 2023 Durango RWD and AWD a rollover rating of only four and three out of five stars, respectively. This indicates a relatively high risk of rollover in certain types of accidents. Dodge could potentially address this issue by lowering the vehicle’s center of gravity, which would make it less likely to tip over in a crash.

Additionally, the Durango received four out of five stars in the frontal crash test, which suggests that there may be room for improvement in this area as well. Dodge could consider adding additional safety features or making design changes to enhance the vehicle’s protection in front-end collisions.

All things considered, it will be interesting to see what steps Dodge takes to try to boost the Durango’s score in future model years.

Durango SRT and Durango Pursuit await safety ratings from NHTSA

While the standard 2023 Dodge Durango has already undergone safety testing from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there are still a few Durango models left to go through the testing process. The Durango SRT and Durango Pursuit have yet to be evaluated by the NHTSA, and it remains to be seen how they will fare in terms of safety ratings.

Given that the Durango SRT and Durango Pursuit are both high-performance versions of the standard Durango, it will be fascinating to see how they perform in safety testing. These models are likely to feature advanced safety technologies such as forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring, among others.

However, it remains to be seen how these features will translate to safety ratings and whether the Durango SRT and Durango Pursuit will receive a 5-star rating like some of their competitors.

Regardless of the outcome, Dodge has a responsibility to continue improving the safety features of its vehicles, including the Durango, to provide its customers with the highest level of protection on the road.
