Stellantis once resisted the electric future, but it is clearly embracing it with the announcement of a new plug-in hybrid Dodge subcompact SUV. Dodge is known for clinging on to its powerful V8 engines as the industry shifted its focus to V6, hybrid, PHEV, and electric powertrain systems. It appears that Dodge is finally ready to say goodbye to its V8 and offer some powerful alternatives.

The 2023 Dodge Hornet is a plug-in hybrid subcompact SUV with the exterior features of a muscle car. The Hornet is the perfect middle ground between a gas-powered and electric vehicle. Dodge is known for muscle cars like the Charger and Challenger. The Hornet will bring American muscle to the PHEV space. Car and Driver claims that it can go from 0-60 miles per hour in 6.1 seconds.

The Dodge Hornet makes 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. It gets at least 30 miles of electric-only driving range. The Hornet is the first of many new plug-in hybrid SUVs that will surface in the next few years.
