The long-awaited Ferrari Purosangue has been speculated about and teased for over a year. Spy shots showed little, and renderings of what it might look like inhabited the Twitterverse. Today, Ferrari finally unveiled its first-ever SUV, and we’ve got the info and images. 

Can a Ferrari SUV still be a thoroughbred?

If there was ever a question about whether an SUV could be a thoroughbred performance machine, the Purosange answers that question. The Ferrari nameplate elevates SUVs beyond anything that other manufacturers could do. 

As the SUV zeitgeist continued, Ferrari made it official, it would NOT build an SUV. It still isn’t calling it that. This is a “2+2” or something about being some sort of “GT.” It can call it whatever it wants, but this is an SUV, plain and simple. 

Does the Ferrari Purosangue get a V12?

And if you still wonder about the SUV performance part, the Purosangue is powered by a 715 hp V12 engine. Not all Ferraris have bestowed this powertrain. What’s novel about this is that it is all-wheel drive, using an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. 

As for the styling, we’re pleased to see there is no angry sculpturing or fake vents as is the trend for everything from Camrys to Chryslers. Ferrari has chosen to steal the SUV profile but kept what’s within clean and Ferrari-like. Do you see that BMW? 

Does the Purosangue look like a lifted GTC4 Lusso?

We see a bit of GTC4Lusso details, with the fender intake tied into the design better, and extra mass to the body. It almost makes the GTC4 Lusso look a bit squished. So the proportions, to our eyes, looks good. In fact, you could almost sketch in more mass in a side view of the Lusso and see a Purosangue. 

And the Purosangue holds some surprises. Specifically, the suicide rear doors. No wonder the image leaks showed the doors closed. And they’re electrically operated, too. 

What about the cabin?

Handling has been well addressed. The all-wheel drive uses the ECU from an SF90 Stradale. There is traction control, and brake-by-wire, being lent from the 296 GTB. Beyond that, the rest of the hardware is Purosangue-only. 

Inside, it is a combination of sporting and luxury. The stitching breakups and bolsters won’t be found in traditional SUVs. It is also devoid of fussy details, so the expanse of surfaces registers as clean and contemporary. The dash features two screens, with one for both the driver and passenger. And the wide console blends gracefully with the dash. 

How much will the Ferrari Purosangue cost?

Rear visibility will be pinched a bit, due to the sweeping beltline. But look, it is a Ferrari, who ever cared about visibility? If you want practicality, you can order a minivan. Fortunately, Ferrari doesn’t make those. At least, not yet. 

If you’re wondering about the price, don’t. High demand has made it a moot point, meaning it may already be sold out. And you know what they say, “If you have to ask you can’t afford it.”
