The 2023 Ford Bronco Still Can’t Catch the Jeep Wrangler
The numbers are in, proving that some SUVs are winners and others are losers. Today, we aren’t calling the Ford Bronco a loser because we respect its mission to try and defeat the Jeep Wrangler. However, the 2023 Ford Bronco still has work to do.
2023 Jeep Wrangler vs. 2023 Ford Bronco: Which SUV is better?
The 2023 Ford Bronco and the 2023 Jeep Wrangler both defeat each other in different areas. The Wrangler has a solid Dana 44 axle, making it more capable, but the Bronco is more comfortable on the pavement.
While critics argue which is better, we know which SUV is more popular. The 2023 Jeep Wrangler sold 156,581 models while the 2023 Ford Bronco moved 105,665 models.
That means the Wrangler sold 50,916 more models and beat the Bronco by 50%. But both options are down compared to 2022. In 2022, the Wrangler sold 181,409 models and the Bronco moved 117,057 units.
So, year-over-year, Wrangler sales dropped by about 20% and Bronco sales are down by 10%. But in 2019, the Wrangler sold 218,032 units. Even though the Bronco hasn’t caught the Wrangler yet, it did take a big bite of its sales after debuting in 2021.
Also, the sales decline can be attributed to supply chain disruptions, rising inflation, and the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike.
Is the 2023 Wrangler or 2023 Bronco more reliable?
According to J.D.Power, the 2023 Jeep Wrangler has a reliability rating of 84 out of 100. J.D.Power gave the 2023 Ford Bronco a reliability rating of 75 out of 100.
So, the Wrangler has a solid advantage. Scores between 70 and 80 are average, while anything between 81 and 90 is above average, and scores between 91 and 100 are best.
The Wrangler is ahead by nine points! Also, the scores are based on feedback collected by actual owners.
Also, the average Wrangler is expected to last between 200,000 and 250,000 miles. Some models have reached 300,000 to 400,000 miles. The average Bronco is expected to reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles.
So for now, the Wrangler is still the more popular and more reliable option. But the Wrangler got a mid-cycle refresh in 2024 that could change things.
