The Ford Escape hasn’t always been the most appealing compact SUV to most. The current model was introduced back in 2020, but it didn’t stand out – especially when the highly anticipated Ford Bronco Sport made its debut one year later.

It seems like the 2023 Ford Escape may start turning heads. The new Escape received a major facelift, and judging from the spy shots, it’s beginning to look more attractive.

New front styling features for the Ford Escape

The Ford Escape redesign gives this SUV a more modern appearance. According to Motor Authority, “The rounded front end of the current Escape has made way for a tougher, blockier look on the updated model. The headlights are also new, and the grille now sits higher and features the Ford logo sitting center. Currently, the logo sits on the leading edge of the hood.” You’d be surprised to hear that the front of the 2023 Escape closely resembles the design of the Mustang Mach-E.

2023 Ford Escape rear style features

Although it looks sleek and stylish, there are no real dramatic changes on the back of the vehicle. The taillights are on the thin side and flow nicely along the liftgate. There is, though, an updated fascia and a new design for the exhaust tips.

One of the best new features for this SUV is the revised dashboard and a larger infotainment screen. In order for this screen to comfortably fit, the current physical controls above the air vents needed to move below the screen’s bezel as touch controls.

What about powertrain options?

Although Ford hasn’t announced what it’s doing for powertrains, the current Escape has a solid selection. There is a 181-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-3. A turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 pumps out 250 horsepower. And if you want to save money at the gas pump, you will certainly appreciate the 2.5-liter inline-4 available in hybrid and plug-in hybrid configurations. These engines produce 200 horsepower and 221 horsepower.

Should I consider a 2022 or 2023 Ford Escape?

The Ford Escape may be a good option if you’re in the market for a compact crossover SUV. Now, if you’re considering which model year to go with, that really depends on your style preferences. Once you see the 2023 version in person, you may not want to think about the 2022 model. But if you can live with the 2022 Escape and its style features – it might be worth the investment, depending on your budget.

In the end, you’ll probably be able to score a better deal on the 2022 Ford Escape. If a larger infotainment screen is an important item on your shopping list, the new Ford Escape could be ideal.
