Full-size pickup trucks are the most popular types of vehicles in America — and two of the top models are the Ford F-150 and the Ram 1500. There’s much to like about both trucks. However, the 2023 Ford F-150 dominates the 2023 Ram 1500 in a crucial area: towing.

While the 2023 Ram 1500 is highly capable for towing, it doesn’t match the F-150. It has a maximum towing capacity of 12,750 pounds.

When hauling a trailer, especially for long distances, it’s ideal to have a full-size pickup truck that can dependably get to the destination — without any mechanical problems. For this element, the 2023 Ford F-150 is the superior choice. It is more reliable than the 2023 Ram 1500.

In J.D. Power reliability analysis, the F-150 received a higher score. It achieved a reliability rating of 86/100, while the Ram 1500 has a score of 80/100. This means that the F-150 has fewer instances of malfunctions, defects, and design flaws.

In addition to the confidence of dependable towing, the higher reliability of the F-150 is beneficial in other ways. This includes lower repair costs, longevity, safety, and consistent performance. There are also fewer hassles of having to take the truck to a mechanic. 

Additional strengths of the Ford F-150 over the Ram 1500

The 2023 F-150 has some additional strengths over the Ram 1500 for full-size pickup truck drivers. This includes a roomier cabin. The F-150 provides a maximum passenger volume of up to 136 cu-ft, while the Ram 1500 has up to 132 cu-ft.

Also, the Ford F-150 tops the Ram 1500 for technologies. It has a more capable and user-friendly infotainment system with the SYNC 4. The F-150’s voice command system has greater capabilities as well. Plus, the Ford truck offers more safety-enhancing driving assistance features than the Ram 1500.

Furthermore, the F-150 is more affordable. It has a starting price of $34,585 MSRP, compared to $37,410 MSRP for the Ram 1500.

With its higher towing capacity and many useful tow features, the 2023 Ram 1500 dominates the 2023 Ram 1500 in a crucial area. For automotive shoppers choosing between the two full-size pickup trucks, the towing prowess is an important factor to keep in mind.
