2023 Ford F-150 Regular Cab, Super Cab, and SuperCrew: What Is the Difference?
Every truck manufacturer seems to have a vocabulary regarding body style configurations. All of this vocabulary can be confusing if you are new to a truck brand or truck shopping in general, from super cabs to crew cabs to quad cabs to cabs. This confusion can be even tougher to understand when it comes to the most popular vehicle in America, the Ford F-150.
With eight different trim levels to choose from, three different cab configurations, and three separate bed lengths, the F-150 is one of the most customizable trucks on the market today. If you want to get behind the wheel of an F-150, here is everything you need to know about all the trim levels and cab and bed configurations you can buy.
What are the 2023 Ford F-150 cab configurations?
The 2023 Ford F-150 has a regular cab, Super Cab, and SuperCrew body styles and 5.5-foot, 6.5-foot, and 8-foot box options. The regular cab is a two-door model with a single bench seat. This cab style can seat two people comfortably and three people if they don’t mind a tight squeeze.
The Super Cab body style has four doors with a small backseat that can seat a maximum of six passengers. The SuperCrew is a body style designed for passenger comfort and very closely resembles an SUV’s layout with four full-size doors and two rows of full-size seats.
When it comes down to combining these cabs and boxes, only some options will work together. For example, a large SuperCrew cab is too big for a full-size 8-foot box. A 6.5-foot and 8-foot box are available for a regular cab layout. The same 6.5- and 8-foot boxes are available for a Super Cab; for the larger cab SuperCrew, only the short 5.5- and 6.5-foot boxes are compatible.
How many 2023 Ford F-150 trim levels are available?
The Ford F-150 has eight different trim levels to choose from for the 2023 model year. According to Ford, these models include the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited, Tremor, and Raptor.
The Ford F-150 XL is the base model “work truck” variant of the F-150. The XLT adds some basic quality-of-life features and upgraded body trim to the XL model. The Lariat model brings leather seating, dual-zone climate control, a larger touchscreen, and a better sound system. The King Ranch model brings heated and ventilated seats to the F-150 lineup with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, unique exterior accents, and ambient lighting.
The Platinum model brings a little more of a city-dwelling aesthetic to the F-150 with polished aluminum wheels, rain-sensing wiper blades, deployable running boards, and LED fog lights. The F-150 Limited trim is the top-of-the-line model in the main F-150 lineup, with a dual power sunroof, leather upholstery, 22-inch aluminum wheels, a 360-degree surround camera, and adaptive cruise control.
The Ford F-150 Raptor and Tremor models are specialty models equipped for off-road and on-road power. The Raptor is built to be more of a super truck with aggressive styling, and the Tremor package is more of a more affordable civilian truck with higher payload and towing capacities when compared with the Raptor model.
Which trim level is the best?
The 2023 Ford F-150 Lariat offers the best bang for your buck. The Lariat adds a ton of features that make the F-150 just as comfortable as a family SUV, while also offering all of the capabilities found with a full-size pickup truck.
The Lariat is also only available with a SuperCrew body style, but you do get a choice between a large 6.5-foot box and a short 5.5-foot box. While you may not have the full versatility of a large 8-foot box with the Lariat, you will have a comfortable, well-equipped truck that can do just about any job comfortably.
