The Ford F-Series pickup truck line is the best-selling line of pickups in the nation. While there are larger models in that line, the F-350 Ford Super Duty is popular for carrying heavy loads among those needing a work truck and those with recreation in mind. Recent spy photos show some exciting prototype camouflage-clad 2023 Ford F-350 variants and spark rumors about the coming options. 

Ford Super Duty

The Ford Super Duty lineup includes the F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty, and the F-450 Super Duty. 

The F-250 Super Duty is more capable than a typical F-150 when carrying heavy loads and pulling loaded trailers for activities such as landscaping and construction or camping trailers and boats. 

The F-350 Super Duty, most recognizable in its dual rear wheel configuration, is also available in a single rear wheel version. As a result, the Ford F-350 Super Duty is an excellent value for people that need to haul or tow heavier loads not supported by the F-250 Super Duty, such as heavy equipment or fifth-wheel camper trailers.

For the largest campers, boats, and work trailers, the F-450 Super Duty provides massive towing and payload capacities at a premium price. 

2023 Ford F-350 Super Duty speculation

Autoblog reports the new Ford Super Duty includes updates to its Tremor package, although they speculate that the prototype wrapped in camouflage could be a 2023 or even a 2024 model. The off-road-focused Super Duty Tremor package debuted in 2020. With Tremor variants now available on all of Ford’s light-duty trucks, it appears it’s time to refresh. A new grille design is the most visible change to the prototype, but it still carries “signature Tremor elements” such as “extra ground clearance, knobby 35″ all-terrain tires, [and] tightly tucked running boards.” 

Ford Authority recently spotted a single-cab F-350 Super Duty dually prototype, calling it the “entry-level workhorse in the Super Duty lineup.” The review notes that the single cab variant offers a “much shorter wheelbase” than other models with larger, more popular cab configurations. The prototype they share pictures of is likely sporting XL trim based on the “basic all-black front grille design,” simple headlights, and plain steel wheels. 

The single cab F-350 Super Duty prototype is missing one of the biggest revelations exposed in recent spy photos of other Super Duty trucks, what Ford Authority calls the “side bed step feature.” The integrated side bed step allows easier access to items in the truck bed and tie-down points within the truck bed for securing loads that may otherwise shift or fly out during transit. The integrated side bed step likely replaces the previous rear bumper mounted bed step option introduced for the 2021 Super Duty lineup. 

In light of recent updates to the F-150 powertrain, including hybrid and fully electric options, rumors of the 2023 Super Duty gaining a hybrid option flourished online. However, those rumors won’t come to fruition, at least not for 2023, as another Ford Authority report cites “sources familiar with the matter,” saying that the 2023 Super Duty line will not feature a hybrid powertrain option. 

What we know at this point

Photographic evidence supports the introduction of an updated design for the grille and taillights and the integrated bed step on some, if not all, trim levels. While the Super Duty cab won’t change, the interior will incorporate changes similar to last year’s refresh of the F-150. 

Another item of certainty is that more information about the 2023 Ford F-350 Super Duty will precede the scheduled October 17th order availability date. Production of fleet and commercial trucks will begin in early 2023 in Ford plants in Kentucky and Ohio, but there’s no official word on production start dates for retail units.
