There are plenty of new and exciting features for the Ford Maverick, but one problem may not have been corrected for the 2023 model year. While we’re stoked to try out new trim levels, the 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid might not get AWD. 

Does the 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid have AWD? 

The 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid may be lacking one crucial update. Fans of the little truck have been begging for all-wheel drive to become available with the hybrid powertrain, but this option might not be in the works. 

Currently, the Maverick is only available with AWD if you opt for the beefier gas-powered engine instead of the standard hybrid option. That means people can’t benefit from hybrid fuel savings and the ability to conquer the wild at the same time. 

Also, the towing package is only available with the more powerful engine too. So, the hybrid variant can only tow up to 2,000 lbs, while other models can tow up to 4,000 lbs. 

We know that the Ford Maverick Tremor has a new advanced AWD system, but guess what? This package is only available with the upgraded engine. 

Will the 2023 Maverick Hybrid get AWD? 

According to MotorTrend, the 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid could gain AWD. So far, rumors about the hybrid truck gaining AWD haven’t been confirmed or denied, so this keeps our hope alive for now. 

Reportedly, the Maverick Hybrid was designed to support AWD from the start. However, Ford may have wanted to keep options simple during the truck’s first year to streamline various options. 

The Maverick Hybrid has a 1.1-kWh battery that doesn’t take up much space, leaving room for a second battery, a larger battery, or AWD. 

But clues also suggest that the Ford Maverick PHEV with AWD could be on the way. We don’t see the plug-in hybrid Maverick being cheaper than the standard hybrid, so hybrid power with AWD could be expensive. 

However, the PHEV Maverick might provide more power. The current hybrid setup pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a 1.1-kWh battery to crank out 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. 

The PHEV could get the hybrid setup from the Ford Escape, which uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor to generate 221 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. 

2023 Maverick: What’s new? 

We’re still waiting to learn more about the 2023 Ford Maverick. The ordering books open in September, so we could find out more information in the next few weeks. It’s primarily expected to be a carry-over model. 

While fans want the Ford Maverick Hybrid to be available with AWD, they may have to wait a bit longer. But they can check out the beefy upgrades that come with the affordable Ford Maverick Tremor. 

You can add the Tremor package for $2,995, and it adds a new AWD system with a twin-clutch rear-drive locking differential, unique suspension springs, enhanced dampers, a one-inch lift, a heavy-duty transmission cooler, skid-plates, tow hooks, and all-terrain tires.
