The big change for the Genesis G80 in 2023 is the launch of an all-electric version. Called the Electrified G80, the car looks practically identical to its gas-powered sibling. The exterior retains the same handsome and distinctive styling. Inside, you’re greeted by the same sumptuously elegant interior. In fact, without driving it or looking under the hood, you’d be hard-pressed to tell the difference until the dual electric motors press you into the leather with their instant torque.

Anyone looking for an electric car will find the G80 EV extremely appealing. Its electric performance is on par with other vehicles in its class, and its combination of features and pricing makes it a compelling value.  

When can I order a 2023 Genesis Electrified G80?

The Electrified Genesis G80 was originally expected to launch this spring but was delayed. Genesis has not provided a reason for the delay, but according to Automotive News, it was due to the global microchip shortage and other supply chain issues. The Electrified G80 follows the Genesis GV60 electric SUV and is critical to Genesis’ electric vehicle strategy. The delay, while unfortunate, shows that Genesis is determined to ensure everything goes smoothly at launch.

The good news is that Genesis recently announced when the Electrified Genesis G80 will be made available. “The Electrified G80 and GV60, the brand’s electric SUV, are now available at select U.S. retailers in California, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. Beginning in September, both EV models will also be available at select retailers across four more states: Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and Washington,” Genesis stated in a recent press release.

How much will the G80 EV cost in 2023?

According to Car and Driver, the price of the Genesis Electrified G80 was expected to start at $75,000. However, according to a recent press release, the vehicle will start at an MSRP of $79,825, making it slightly more expensive than Car and Driver predicted.

Prestige is the only trim level and is loaded with a full suite of luxury features, including leather, wood, and brushed metal trim, and a Lexicon premium stereo system. The price is above the Genesis GV60, which starts at $59,895 and is essentially a luxury version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 models.

The Genesis Electrified G80 offers performance and range comparable to other EVs in its class, including the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, Lucid Motors Air, and Mercedes-Benz EQS, while costing $10,000 to $30,000 less than those models. Standard equipment includes a 14.5-inch touchscreen with Android and Apple connectivity, a Lexicon audio system, and a full suite of driver assistance technology.

Should you wait for the Genesis G80 EV or order another model now? 

If you’re set on the Genesis G80, your only options are to wait for the 2023 EV model or purchase a gas-powered 2022 model. The gas-powered G80 offers comparable performance and costs about $25,000 less but only gets between 20 and 26 mpg combined, depending on the engine option. 

As for other electric cars, it depends. Supply chain issues mean that ordering any electric vehicle currently takes roughly six months. However, the critical factor is the unknown launch date for the Electrified G80 and its availability.
