The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 Has 2 Key Advantages Over the Lexus RZ
There are no two better competitors in the electric SUV segment than the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 and the Lexus RZ. They’re both two-row SUVs with plenty of space and high-tech gadgetry that should work for almost any buyer. They’re also priced similarly and have unique aesthetics to boot. However, anyone deciding between these two vehicles should know that the Electrified GV70 has two key advantages over the RZ.
The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 has a much better range than the Lexus RZ
We have tested both EVs and although we were impressed with their comfort and styling, the electric range for each car was a big highlight – particularly for the Lexus RZ. Our tester for the week was a Lexus RZ 450e Luxury, which had a total range rated at 196 miles. That might sound OK, but in our real-world testing, it was not.
After making multiple 10 to 30-mile trips to run errands and transport people, the RZ 71.4-kWh battery ran out of juice quickly. That meant we had to charge up the car a few times during the week we drove it because we didn’t have access to charge it at home every night.
The Genesis Electrified GV70, on the other hand, had 236 miles of range, which doesn’t sound like much more. But considering another 30 miles, give or take, meant a few extra trips, we didn’t have as much range anxiety. We only had to top the car’s 77-kWh battery once when we had it.
An electric vehicle’s mileage is one of the most important factors when shopping for one. In this case, the Electrified GV70 is the way to go.
The Genesis Electrified GV70 has a Boost mode and more power
Another big factor when considering an electric vehicle is the power that it puts out. The Genesis Electrified GV70 uses a dual-motor setup that generates 483 hp. With that kind of energy, the GV70 can accelerate to 60 mph from a stop in only 3.9 seconds, according to Car and Driver’s testing.
The Lexus RZ 450e has a similar dual-motor setup, which puts an electric motor between the front axles and one between the rear. The AWD combination puts out 308 hp, which allows it get up to 60 mph in a slower 4.6 seconds.
In the real world, both EVs have neck-snapping torque and feel strong when the throttle is pushed to the floor. However, the GV70 has an ace up its sleeve in the form of a Boost button on the steering wheel, which unlocks all 483 hp to provide warp-speed-like acceleration that will make everyone in the car say, “Whoah!”
Aside from these two factors, both EVs are similar
Aside from the charging and power aspects of both these EVs, the Genesis GV70 and Lexus RZ are fairly similar. We like the RZ’s futuristic and angular styling as well as the GV70s elegantly retro aesthetics. They both have all of the tech-savvy goods you need including wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, digital dash displays, and power amenities. They both also have plenty of cargo room.
That said, if you’re looking for an EV with plenty of power and enough charge to get you around town without anxiety, the Electrified GV70 is the way to go.
