The 2023 Genesis G80 Has Several Key Advantages Over the Jaguar XF, According to U.S. News
The mid-size luxury sedan game has some big players, but for anyone looking to stand out there are two quality options that are a bit off the beaten path. While both the Genesis G80 and Jaguar XF are compelling choices, the Korean luxury car has several advantages over its British competition. Let’s see how these two premium sedans compare.
The Genesis G80 takes an early lead
When deciding between luxury cars, the interior experience is a big deal. It’s here where the Genesis G80 starts to pull ahead of the Jaguar XF. In the Genesis, the overall atmosphere is one of opulence. Quilted leather seats, crisp design, and a cohesive layout make the G80 feel like a true premium contender.
Meanwhile, the Jaguar XF no longer feels like an industry leader. Just a few years ago, the interior of the XF was near the top of its class. Since then, the midsize Jaguar luxury sedan hasn’t evolved, and that same design has fallen behind the competition. It’s basic, but not crisp enough to be considered minimalist. In all, it feels like Jaguar is trying to blend classic with modern in all the wrong ways.
More standard features in the G80
The latest Genesis G80 also offers more standard features than the Jaguar XF. With a standard 14.5-inch infotainment display, the Genesis shows off its tech side immediately. It also comes with an eight-inch digital instrument cluster, heated and ventilated seats, and proximity keyless entry as standard on all models. Other standard G80 features like automatic high beams, driver attention monitoring, and speed limit recognition are only available as upgrades in the XF.
Looking at the Jaguar, the list of standard tech features is similar, though the base infotainment display is considerably smaller at just 11.4 inches. In addition, only the Genesis comes standard with heated and cooled seats – you’ll pay extra to get those in the Jag.
The Jaguar offers more cargo space
For road tripping, the Jaguar shows its worth with nearly 18 cubic feet of trunk space. Meanwhile, the Genesis offers just 13.1 cubic feet of space, which is approximately one less full-sized suitcase. That said, the G80 offers more cabin room than the Jaguar, so the trade is beneficial for back-seat riders.
More power in the Genesis
Under the hood, the 2023 Genesis G80 sports a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine as standard. With all-wheel drive, the base G80 delivers 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration to 60 mph takes just 5.7 seconds, and fuel economy is strong at 23 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.
The base Jaguar XF is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo offering 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The lower power also results in slower acceleration; the Jaguar takes 6.2 seconds to reach highway speeds. Typically, lower displacement and reduced power would mean better efficiency, but bafflingly the Jaguar falls short here as well. The British brute burns 22 mpg city and 30 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.
Ultimately, the G80 is a more well-rounded luxury sedan than the Jaguar. However, both models provide a luxury drive that stands out from the pack.
