The 2023 GMC Canyon Is Finally Gaining Extra Muscle
You aren’t alone if you’ve felt like the GMC Canyon is a little tame. It just needs a beefy upgrade to attract a little more attention, especially because it’s almost identical to the Chevy Colorado. The 2023 GMC Canyon could set itself apart with extra power.
What are the GMC Canyon engines?
Currently, the GMC Canon has a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque. This is an adequate start, but this engine might get dropped when the 2023 GMC Cayon arrives.
You can upgrade to the 3.6lter V6 engine for 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. Also, the 2.8-liter inline-four Duramax diesel engine cranks out 181 lb and 369 lb-ft of torque. These engines are available with an automatic six-speed or eight-speed transmission.
The Canyon can accelerate from 0 to 60 mpg in about 6.9 seconds, which is great for a midsize truck. It can tow up to 7,700 lbs and has a payload rating of up to 2,068 lbs.
According to Pickup Truck News, the engines could be replaced by new units, or they could be optimized to provide more power. The transmission is expected to stay the same, and a hybrid variant won’t emerge anytime soon.
What to expect with the 2023 GMC Canyon
Along with new or upgraded engines, the 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X trim will emerge, and it should be similar to the new Chevy Colorado ZR2 model. In the past, the ZR2 model has been more capable than the AT4 model.
However, the Canyon AT4X is expected to be just as capable as the 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2. Both trucks will ride on the updated GMT-31XX-2 body-on-frame platform to enhance ride quality and off-roading prowess.
We can speculate that both trucks will have a factory-installed suspension lift, aluminum wheels wrapped in meaty all-terrain tires, upgraded shocks, improved Multimatic DSSV dampers, more robust skid plates, a two-speed transfer case, and locking differentials.
The Colorado features a new Baja mode for rock crawling, so hopefully, the Canyon will get that mode too. Other driving modes include Sport, Off-Road, Eco, and Tow.
The Off-Road mode adjusts the pedal and throttle response to provide the optimal amount of power during obstacles.
How much does the 2023 Canyon cost?
The 2023 GMC Canyon price could start around $30,000. The current model has an MSRP of $27,001, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the price increased to cover the model’s complete redesign. It should have a tougher, more confident shape.
It’s safe to expect new LED headlights, revised fender flares, a new grille shape, a revised front bumper, new wheel designs, updated taillights, and a restyled rear end.
There will be a brand new interior too. The GMC Canyon Denali could provide more luxury and comfort than before with new leather upholstery, ventilated seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a premium audio system.
The Canyon is the premium version of the Chevy Colorado, but we hope something sets them apart. The Canyon could step out of the Colorado’s shadow with more power, capability, or luxurious upgrades.
