The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Has 1 Affordable Advantage
Put another win on the board for the GMC Sierra 1500. This full-size truck has done a lot to improve recently, and the competition should take notice. As inventory increases, new truck prices are still insanely high. However, the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 has the lowest markups above MSRP.
The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 is the closest to MSRP
The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 has an advantage when it comes to availability and pricing. While other trucks like the Ford Maverick or Toyota Tundra are selling with massive markups way above the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), the Sierra 1500 is taking a different approach.
According to iSeeCars, dealers are giving new vehicles a markup that’s about 8.8 percent above the MSRP. Even though inventory and availability are increasing for some of the most popular models, prices remain high.
For example, the Jeep Wrangler has an average 23.9 percent difference between its MSRP and the price people have paid.
But the GMC Sierra 1500 only has an average difference of 0.9 percent. It’s the truck with the lowest markup above MSRP. It beats the Chevy Silverado, Ford F-150, Ram 1500, and midsize options.
While prices seemed to have peaked and inventory is improving, we aren’t out of the hole yet. Demand is still higher than production rates, allowing dealerships to get away with significant price hikes.
Which 2023 Sierra 1500 trim is best?
There are eight different 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 trims available that range in price between $37,100 to $82,200 before the $1,895 destination fee has been added. There are plenty of configurations to meet various budgets and needs.
But the Sieera 1500 SLE model standards out as an attractive option with a few extra luxury, work, and convenience features without breaking the bank. It can be equipped with the four-cylinder, 5.3-liter V8, or diesel engine.
It builds upon the entry-level model with 17-inch alloy wheels, a trailer hitch receiver, LED bed lighting, the MultiPro tailgate with power release, an automatic locking rear differential, body-colored door handles, dual 120-volt outlets, remote start, and keyless entry/ignition.

Which Sierra 1500 engine is best?
The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 kicks off with a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine with 310 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque. You can upgrade to the 5.8-liter V8 engine for 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque.
For the most towing power, go for the 6.2-liter V8 engine with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The Sierra 1500 can tow up to 13,000 lbs with this engine. Plus, it has the fastest acceleration.
But the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six diesel engine cranks out 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It provides the best fuel economy with an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and up to 30 mpg on the highway. It helios the Sierra 1500 tow up to 9,400 lbs.
We would recommend going with the 6.2-liter V8 or the diesel, but the other engines are also pretty stout. The Sierra 1500 currently has the lowest markup, and we will provide updates if things change.
