2023 Honda Accord Hybrid: 3 Reasons to Buy (and 2 to Skip) the Honda Hybrid Sedan
The 11th-generation Honda Accord is here, and with it comes a new Honda Accord Hybrid. But updated styling isn’t all that this new midsize hybrid sedan has to offer. There are three updates that are enticing about the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid. However, there are also a few disappointments when assessing Honda’s newest midsize contender.
Why Choose the Honda Accord Hybrid in 2023?
Tech and styling are truly highlights of the new Honda hybrid. Each factor elevates the overall ownership experience and proves that the new electrified Accord is about substance and style.
All 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid Models Feature a New 12.3-inch Touchscreen
Sure, the large new touchscreen is impressive. But it’s the functions that come with it that are truly exciting. The 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid is the first to come standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Those are big updates that add to the tech-forward experience of this midsize sedan.
In addition, the large display also includes satellite-linked navigation. And all Accord Hybrid models also come with a 10.5-inch digital instrument cluster as standard. In all, the upgraded tech in this new hybrid make it worth taking for a spin.
Over-the-Air Updates
Over-the-air updates are becoming more common these days, and the new Accord Hybrid is no exception. This allows Honda to send updated infotainment tech to the Accord without the need to visit a dealership.
Perhaps more importantly, it will let the automaker send out performance tweaks to the engine management computer as needed. If it develops a more efficient powertrain configuration, owners may see that update pushed without requiring a service appointment. That can even extend to recalls, as we’ve seen with the recent Tesla FSD situation.
Styling is Near Luxury Status
MotorTrend loves the new look of the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid. It’s a simplified design when compared to the previous model, adding elegance without subtracting style. The wider stance is notable as well, as it gives the midsize hybrid a more athletic road presence.
Why the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid May Be Worth Skipping
While there are many things to look forward to in the new Accord Hybrid, it isn’t all sunshine and roses.
Lack of Drive Quality Improvements
While the new looks and tech are nice, the overall feel of the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid doesn’t greatly differ from the old version. We’d expect more substantial improvements to comfort and handling, and those seem to be lacking for 2023. Even more confusing, the Accord Hybrid doesn’t come standard with wireless phone chargingn, despite having both remote CarPlay connections.
Diminished Performance
The 204 horsepower hybrid drive system is adequate, but lacks when compared to last year’s model. At 212 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque, the 2022 Accord Hybrid packed a bigger punch. Even more confusing, the previous Accord Hybrid also offered better highway fuel economy at 47 mpg, versus just 41 mpg highway in 2023.
Is the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid a Good Value?
Overall, it’s hard to say that the latest Honda Accord Hybrid is a bad choice. It still offers great reliability, over 50 mpg city, and plenty more tech. However, those looking to save will find an excellent value in the 2022 models without giving up too much.
