Honda’s Civic model offers sensibility and dependability, but the 2023 Sport trim might stretch your Civic budget further than the previous model. Honda dropped the Civic LX from the 2022 model, which could hit fans right in their budget. Check out how the automaker’s most affordable sedan just got a little pricier. 

Why is the new 2023 Honda Civic more expensive than the 2022 model?

The most significant difference between the 2023 and 2022 Honda Civic models is the lack of an LX trim. The Civic’s LX trim was the cheapest option, so potential owners who want the most affordable trim possible will have to opt for a 2023 Honda Civic Sport.

It’s the most significant change between the two model years and a change that might hit car shoppers in their wallets. Specifically, the new Civic Sport starts at $25,050, about $5.00 more than the 2022 Sport trim. Still, without an LX trim, the cheapest model in the 2023 lineup is around $1,405 more than the most affordable trim in the 2022 lineup. 

What trims does the Civic offer for 2023?

The 2023 Honda Civic lineup offers three basic trims after ditching the LX for the latest model year:

  • Civic Sport: $25,050
  • Civic EX: $26,450
  • Civic Touring: $30,050 

Moreover, the post-facelift Civic lineup offers a performance-oriented Si variant and razor-sharp Type R hot hatchback. Additionally, the Sport, EX, and Touring are available as hatchbacks, which bumps cargo capacity up to 24.5 cubic feet, according to TrueCar. 

The rest of the trims look similar to the 2022 models, with the exception of the LX trim. Also, the rest of the lineup doesn’t get too much of a price bump. 

How does the 2023 Honda Civic stack up against the closest competition?

Even with a price bump, the 2023 Honda Civic is a staple in sensible, dependable transportation. For instance, Car and Driver gave the Honda model a 10 out of 10 for the segment, citing its interior space, attractive facelift (compared to the 2021 model), and budget-friendly pricing.

Still, the Civic goes without a hybrid or all-wheel drive variation, features that the 2023 Toyota Corolla offers for less. 

Is the new Civic worth it?

Despite the price bump and lack of AWD or a hybrid platform, the 2023 Civic boasts practicality, space, and commendable fuel economy. Moreover, the Civic’s handsome fascia and rear-end styling are much more attractive than the 2021 model.
