After months of seeing the same camouflaged images of the forthcoming 2023 Honda Civic Type R, we finally have an official debut date. Don’t get us wrong, the camo looked kind of cool, but what’s even cooler is that Honda’s Japanese factory museum leaked a full image of the Civic Type R. Finally, we have a real peek at the car that is going to be fully revealed on July 20.

The wait is nearly over for the 2023 Honda Civic Type R

Images of the forthcoming 2023 Honda Civic Type R have been all over the Internet since late last year as the camo version has been seen on a number of occasions. We’ve seen it at the Tokyo Auto Salon and lapping the Suzuka Circuit and the Nurburgring. Although the car was all wrapped up, it’s easy to see the body lines and contours of it so we can tell what it mostly looks like. If anything, it basically looks like a current-generation Civic Hatchback with a large wing on the back of it.

That’s actually a welcoming look in our eyes as the last generation of the Civic Type R looked a bit gaudy with its large honeycomb fake vents and sharp angles. That’s not to say we didn’t like it, though. In fact, we enjoyed it immensely, especially when driving up the legendary Pike’s Peak mountain.

When exactly will the 2023 Civic Type R debut?

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R’s official debut date is set for July 20. As if that date wasn’t enough of a gift from the Japanese automaker, MotorTrend reported that Honda’s factory museum and showcase website leaked a full image of the car. The image was posted on the Civic11Forum before it was quickly pulled from Honda’s website.

As you can in the image, the 2023 Civic Type R forgoes a lot of the gaudiness that the last generation brought. There are no crazy vents or body contours. Just a Championship White (most likely) paint job and a semi-flashy wing that we have all come to know and love. Otherwise, the car looks like an 11th-generation Civic Hatchback with a wing and 19-inch wheels on it. Of course, there will likely be much more to the car than that.

What can we expect from the new Civic Type R?

Considering the last iteration of the Honda Civic Type R carried a potent turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that generated 306 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, we expect that the new model will have the same specs, if not marginally better. We say “marginally” because Honda is usually all about refinement when it comes to new engines since manufacturing costs – and supply chain issues – are important.

Also, while many of us gear heads would love a 400-hp AWD Civic, that’s likely not going to happen. Of course, we can all wait on the edge of our seats for such a thing. But the good thing is that we will finally know all of the details of the 2023 Civic Type R very soon.
