Unlike the 2023 Nissan Rogue, the 2023 Honda CR-V offers a hybrid model

The 2023 Honda CR-V received a thorough redesign for the new model year. A big part of the redesign is an upgraded hybrid powertrain. Hybrids are more common for the compact crossover segment — and the CR-V is one of the best. The hybrid powertrain combines a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with two electric motors. It’s the most potent powertrain available for the CR-V, delivering a total system output of 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. 

Conversely, unlike the CR-V and many other crossover SUVs, the 2023 Nissan Rogue doesn’t offer a hybrid. All Rogue models have a turbocharged 2.0-liter 3-cylinder engine. The turbo 2.0-liter engine is weaker than the CR-V’s hybrid powertrain, especially for the torque output. It produces only 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque.

2023 CR-V Hybrid has higher gas mileage than the 2023 Rogue

While the greater power output is a nice bonus, the primary attraction of the hybrid powertrain for the 2023 Honda CR-V is its high gas mileage. Gasoline is a major cost of vehicle ownership — and an efficient crossover SUV like the CR-V makes filling up the tank a more affordable endeavor. 

The CR-V Hybrid gets a gas-sipping estimated fuel economy of up to 40 combined mpg. In comparison, the 2023 Nissan Rogue has an estimated gas mileage of up to 33 combined mpg. Another advantage of the CR-V Hybrid is convenience. With lower fuel consumption, it requires fewer stops at gas stations compared to the Rogue. 

Other strengths of the Honda CR-V over the Nissan Rogue

The 2023 CR-V has some other strengths over the 2023 Rogue. This includes a more upscale design. The CR-V Hybrid is the most premium model for the crossover SUV — and more upscale than anything that the Rogue offers. In 2023, Honda has gone all in for making the hybrid the marque model.

The CR-V has four trims. The base and second-tier trims are fully gas-powered, while the highest two trims are hybrids. For the pinnacle of premium, there’s the top-of-the-line Sport Touring Hybrid. It has a range of premium features, such as a heated steering wheel, a Bose premium sound system, satellite-linked navigation, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, a hands-free power tailgate, and a one-touch power moonroof.

Also, the CR-V provides a generous amount of space for rear-seat passengers. It has 41.0 inches of rear legroom, compared to 38.5 inches for the Rogue. Plus, it offers a slightly higher maximum cargo capacity (76.5 vs. 74.1 cu-ft).

Furthermore, the CR-V has a complimentary maintenance plan — but the Rogue doesn’t offer one. Good for two years or 24,000 miles, the free maintenance plan covers oil changes, topping off the fluids, tire rotations, and multi-point inspections.

With its hybrid model, the 2023 Honda CR-V has a great benefit over the 2023 Nissan Rogue. The CR-V Hybrid is more powerful, efficient, and upscale than any Rogue model. If you’re deciding between the two crossover SUVs, the hybrid model is something to keep in mind.
