Did the 2023 Honda HR-V Just Redeem Its Nameplate?

The 2023 Honda HR-V is redesigned. The new subcompact SUV includes a new design language and new features.
The HR-V is a major improvement over past model years (thank goodness). Honda and Toyota may produce competitive SUVs for larger SUV vehicle segments, but both automakers have experienced tough times in the subcompact SUV segment.
The Honda HR-V and Toyota C-HR are the black sheep of their families. They haven’t fit in, and they don’t resonate well with consumers, especially compared to other vehicles in their respective lineups.
The HR-V has received poor reviews over the last few years and has even been listed as one of the most unsafe subcompact SUV models because of its design. The 2023 HR-V is a completely new take on the Japanese subcompact SUV. Honda has produced the best version of the HR-V yet.
How much will the 2023 Honda HR-V cost?
The 2023 Honda HR-V starts at $23,650. It comes in three different trim levels, LX, Sport, and EX-L. The Sport trim starts at $25,650, and the EX-L starts at $27,450.

The new HR-V comes standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 158 horsepower. That’s an upgrade from the 2022 model year’s 1.8-liter four-cylinder and its measly 141 horsepower. The new subcompact SUV achieves 26 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway.
The Honda HR-V comes standard with push-button start, cruise control, and one-touch turn indicators. The EX-L includes standard features like a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an eight-speaker audio system, and a wireless phone charger. The final trim also features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, ambient LED lighting, and leather-trimmed seats.
Does the Honda HR-V have a lot of problems?
The last four Honda HR-V model years have less than 10 problems each registered on CarComplaints.com. The HR-V isn’t an exceptionally problematic vehicle, but the 2022 model year got a poor IIHS side crashworthiness rating after testing.
The 2023 Honda HR-V is a complete redesign, so it could leave the HR-V’s crashworthiness issues behind. Thus far, the 2023 model year has higher overall ratings from automotive publications than any other HR-V model year. Car and Driver gave the new HR-V the best overall score it has ever received from the publication. Has Honda finally produced a competitive subcompact SUV?
