How capable is the 2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport?
The 2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport can’t wait to tackle the trails. It hasn’t made its debut, but it’s been dominating off-roading trails in the wild. While it’s no Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, it has above-average off-roading chips for a three-row SUV.
To prove its capabilities, it took a spin through moderately difficult trails in Colorado. Honda says it’s capable enough to traverse over half the trails on Unites States public land, and they’re already backing it up.
It goes beyond what the average SUV can do with the ability to traverse water crossings, steep inclines, slopes, ditches, mud, ruts, sand, medium-sized rocks, and high-tilting terrain.
Images and videos show the TrailSport climbing over obstacles while it’s still wearing camouflage. Participants couldn’t even provide details about the interior because it’s under embargo.
What comes with the Pilot TrailSport?
The 2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport is equipped with a one-inch suspension lift. It rides on 18-inch TrailSport exclusive wheels with inset spokes to protect them from damage. They’re wrapped in 265/60R18 Continental TerranContact A/T tires.
According to MotorTrend, the suspension includes retuned dampers with different valving, unique spring rates, and thinner roll bars in the front and rear anti-roll bars to enhance flexibility.
The unibody frame is improved with additional support structures and revision to the existing structure to improve the upper rear lateral rigidity by 30 percent.
Rear bending rigidity increased by 20 percent, rear damper torsion got a 30 percent boost, and front lateral rigidity improved by 60 percent.
It has a unique front and rear bumper design to improve its performance. Plus, steel skid plates protect the undercarriage. They held up to scraping and bangs on the trails. A tow hook is mounted to the bottom and can pull twice its weight.
With Trail Mode activated, the Trail Torque Logic System sends 70 percent of the available torque to the rear wheels. F needed, 75 percent of the torque can be sent to the wheel with traction as 25 percent is sent to the other wheel.
Plus, the Honda Pilot TrailSport has hill descent control and TrailWatch. The 360-degree camera displays your surroundings at speeds below 15 mph to help you navigate through tight areas.
How much will the Pilot TrailSport cost?
The 2023 Honda Pilot TrailSport price hasn’t been revealed. We’re still waiting to learn more about it, including what it looks like. The 2022 Pilot starts at $38,080. Rumors suggest that the TrailSport could crest $40,000.
Honda hasn’t released what powertrain options will be available for the new Pilot. The current 3.5-liter V6 engine with 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque could be replaced by a more powerful option.
Rumors imply that a hybrid option is possible. Plus, the Pilot currently tows up to 5,000 lbs and could see a power increase.
