Hyundai is a South Korean automaker that has a lot of great cars in its lineup right now, but like any other automaker, Hyundai is always looking to improve itself. One of the latest cars from the company is the Ioniq 6, and it’s a midsize electric sedan that debuted in the American car market in early 2023. Here’s a look at the brand-new 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 and how it embraces its sedan qualities instead of trying to be an SUV.

What J.D. Power thought about the 2023 Ioniq 6

J.D. Power recently got the chance to test-drive the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6, and overall, the car critic was impressed by the brand-new EV. It starts at just under $43,000, but that’s for the standard range option. The standard version of the sedan comes with an electric motor that gets 149 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a 53-kWh battery, allowing it to get 240 miles of range.

That’s a decent range number, but drivers can upgrade the vehicle’s motors and range. There’s an optional dual-motor option that gets 320 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque, and there’s also an optional 77.4-kWh battery pack. The longest-range configuration has 361 miles on a single charge, which gives it some of the best value on the market.

Other than those impressive powertrain specs, the car critic also liked the Ioniq 6’s interior. It’s roomy, and it’s also well-equipped. Hyundai gave it a 12.3-inch touchscreen as standard and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster display. The South Korean auto giant also gave it many smart safety features, and it’s also the first Hyundai car with Bluelink+ 4G broadband as a standard feature.

It’s refreshing that the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 embraces being a sedan

While the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 has a lot of specs that make it a worthwhile option, what’s especially refreshing about the sedan is the fact that it’s a sedan in the first place. It’s no secret that, in the American car market, SUVs and trucks are dominating sedans in terms of sales. As such, most automakers have been investing in making SUVs and trucks.

Not only is the 2023 Ioniq 6 not an SUV or a truck, but it’s not afraid to be a sedan. It doesn’t try to be an SUV by having a lot of cargo capacity or towing capacity. Instead, it’s focused on being an efficient and comfortable machine. As such, even the slowest version has a decent range number and a decent acceleration time. It’s also able to do that while having a unique look that further separates itself from SUVs. 

An electric sedan with a unique look and style

Speaking of the unique look, that’s one aspect of the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 that J.D. Power liked. Its design is unique not only in the front but also in the rear. The car critic described the front as evocative of a Porsche 911 or an Oldsmobile Aurora. Meanwhile, the rear of the car has a more aerodynamic design that helps improve its efficiency and, thus, its range numbers. 

That rear design technically makes the Ioniq 6 a fastback, and fastbacks are rare in the American car market. This bold and unique shape doesn’t compromise interior space either as Hyundai gave the 2023 Ioniq 6 a long wheelbase. In fact, it’s two inches longer than the Hyundai Palisade’s wheelbase. As such, not only are the seats roomy, but the Ioniq 6 also gets 11.2 cu-ft of trunk space.

With such a unique look and feel, the 2023 Ioniq 6 successfully stands out from the rest of the competition in its class.
