The 2023 Jeep Compass Finally Gained More Power
It’s been an honor to watch the Jeep Compass grow up. It went from the weakest Jeep SUV in the lineup to a real contender with an exceptional interior. Now the 2023 Jeep Compass finally has more engine power and off-roading chops to match its confident look.
How much power does the 2023 Jeep Compass have?
The 2023 Jeep Compass has a standard turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine that churns out 200 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. This extra power should provide a more engaging ride thanks to a peppier acceleration.
The 2022 Jeep Compass uses a 2.4-liter inline-four engine with 177 hp and 172 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 9.5 seconds, which is adequate but not exactly exciting.
So, the new Compass should be faster. Plus, the old nine-speed automatic transmission has been replaced by an eight-speed gearbox.
It’s using the same engine that the 2023 Dodge Hornet has. The Alfa Romeo Tonale was supposed to use the same engine, but now it’s getting a hybrid setup instead.
Did the 2023 Compass get off-roading upgrades?
The 2023 Jeep Compass gained moderate off-roading upgrades. For example, the Jeep Active 4×4 system is now standard across the entire lineup. The 2WD drivetrains have been put out to pasture so drivers can enjoy the boost of the power being sent to each wheel.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is the most popular model. According to MotorTrend, it has a trail-rated 4×4 rock-crawl ratio that’s powered by a 4.71:1 first gear ratio paired with a 4.398 final drive to deliver its 20:1 class-leading crawl ratio.
Regular Compass models have a ground clearance of 7,7 inches, but the Trailhawk trim includes a suspension lift that takes it up to about 8.1 inches.
It has a 30-degree approach angle, a 24-degree break over angle, and a departure angle of 34.0 degrees. Plus, it includes off-roading modes for Auto, Snow, Sand/Mud, and Rock.
Upgrading to the 2023 Jeep Compass Trailhawk model adds a black painted roof, 17-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, a full-size spare tire, underbody skid plates, tow hooks, automatic wipers, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient interior lighting, and parking sensors.
How much does the 2023 Jeep Compass cost?
The 2023 Jeep Compass price starts at $31,590, which is $1,210 more than the outgoing model. This price is alright, considering the new engine, but it feels steep compared to rivals. The 2023 Mazda CX-30 starts at $23,950. However, that Mazda won’t be rock climbing.
Upgrading to the Compass Trailhawk trim takes the price up to $37,340, and the top-spec High Altitude takes things up to $40,340.
The Compass didn’t relieve any styling upgrades, because it gained a slight refresh for 2022 that included a full interior revamp. Other updates for 2023 include standard 17-inch wheels on lower trim levels and more standard features.
We can’t wait to get behind the wheel to see how the new engine feels. The new Compass is expected to arrive at dealerships during the first quarter of 2023. Stay tuned for the latest updates.
