The 2023 Jeep Gladiator Still Beats the New Chevy Colorado
As the Jeep Gladiator seems like it’s starting to age, the Chevrolet Colorado spices things up with a fresh redesign. However, did the 2023 Chevy Colorado do enough to tackle the 2023 Jeep Gladiator? It may fall short.
2023 Jeep Gladiator vs. 2023 Chevy Colorado
It’s pretty exciting that the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado gained a new engine option with three different outputs. However, the Colorado dropped its diesel engine. You’ll have to go for an older model if you want the 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with 181 hp and 369 b-ft of torque.
The 2023 Jeep Gladiator is available with the 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel engine that cranks out 260 hp and 422 lb-ft of torque. It has the best-in-class diesel power. It’s also available with a six-speed manual transmission.
However, the 2023 Colorado has a 2.7-liter inline-four turbo engine that provides up to 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque with the High-Output variant. The standard Jeep Gladiator engine is a 3.6-liter V6 option with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.
As a result, the Colorado could be a bit faster and sportier than the Gladiator. The Gladiator can reach 60 mph in about 7.3 seconds. The 2023 Colorado could be in the 6.0-second range.
Is the Gladiator or Colorado more capable?
The 2023 Jeep Gladiator and 2023 Chevy Colorado have a similar amount of strength. The Gladiator can tow up to 7,650 lbs, while the Colorado can tow up to 7,700 lbs. That’s only a 50-pound difference.
But the Gladiator can tow up to 4,000 lbs without the Max Tow package, and the Colorado starts at 3,500 lbs. Also, the Gladiator can carry a payload of up to 1,700 lbs, while the Colorado can carry up to about 1,500 lbs.
Both trucks are off-roading oriented, with the Rubicon and ZR2 trims. The Gladiator has a ground clearance of 11.1-inches, and the Colorado sits about 10.7-inches off the ground.
According to Car and Driver, the Colorado ZR2 has an improved approach angle of 38.3 degrees, but the Gladiator remains on top with a 43.6-degree approach angle.
While the Colorado has a new Desert Boss off-roading trim for high-speed racing across the sand, the Gladiator has the Mojave trim. We can’t wait to see if the Desert Boss can keep up.
Does the Colorado or Gladiator have a better interior?
The 2023 Chevy Colorado has a much-improved interior with higher quality materials and a modern layout.
The 2023 Jeep Gladiator is a little less plush but very durable with a waterproof start button. Both trucks pop with red accent stitching.
While the Colorado has a new sunroof, the Gladiator actually gets naked with removable panels. It’s still the only convertible truck.
Both trucks feature unique storage solutions. The Colorado has a cubby in the tailgate that’s lockable, and the Gladiator has a hidden storage compartment under the rear seat.
On paper, the Gladiator seems a little tougher with more grit, but the Colorado features significant improvements over the outgoing model. Losing the diesel engine stinks, but the new 2.7-liter engine is interesting.
The Gladiator can still go further in the wild, but the Colorado might not be far behind and could be faster in the desert. We can’t wait to see how both trucks hold up both on and off the pavement.
