The 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L Is a Worthy Ford Expedition Opponent

2023 Jeep Wagoneer L vs. 2023 Ford Expedition
The 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L takes the Wagonner to new levels. We mean this literally because it’s 12 inches longer than the regular Wagoneer model. Also, the Ford Expedition Max is 12 inches longer than the regular Expedition.
But these massive SUVs don’t come cheap. According to Kelley Blue Book, The Wagoneer L is expected to begin at about $62,000, and the 2023 Expedition Max starts at around $59,940. The Wagoneer L could provide a little more value, making it worth the extra cost.
For example, the base model of the Wagoneer L features leather upholstery, and the standard Expedition Max comes with cloth seats. The Wagoneer L provides standard heated and ventilated seats too.
Does the Wagoneer L or Expedition Max have more power?
The 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L has a new 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine with 420 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque. It replaces the 5.2-liter V8 engine with 392 hp and 404 lb-ft of torque.
The Wagoneer L can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 5.5 seconds, which is extremely fast for a vehicle that weighs 6,201 lbs. Also, the Wagoneer L can tow up to 10,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,179 lbs.
With the 2023 Ford Expedition Max, you get a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 380 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. Rumors suggest that a more powerful hybrid engine could be in the works. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.5 seconds and weighs 5,793 lbs.
The Expedition Max can tow up to 9,000 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,757 lbs. It gets an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and up to 21 mpg on the highway. The Wagoneer L gets an estimated 16 mpg in the city and up to 23 mpg on the highway.
Plus, the Wagoneer has an adjustable air suspension, independent four-wheel drive, a locking differential, and a two-speed transfer case. The Expedition Max has an independent heavy-duty suspension available.
Does the Wagoneer L or Expedition Max have better features?
The 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L offers 44.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, with up to 112.9 cubes in total. The 2023 Ford Expedition provides 36.0 cubes behind the rear seats and up to 121.4 cubes with the seats folded flat.
Also, the Wagoneer L has the best-in-class overall passenger space with a volume of 179.0 cubic feet. The Expedition Max has 171.9 cubic feet of passenger volume.
Both SUVs are decked out with modern tech, such as wireless phone charging pads, a 360-degree surround-view camera, a hands-free liftgate, automatic high beams, and a panoramic sunroof.
The Wagoner has an optional infotainment screen for the passenger and a rear entertainment system with Amazon FireTV connectivity.
While the Ford Expedition Max has a cargo space and payload advantage, the Wagoneer L could offer a smoother ride, more off-roading capabilities, extra passenger space, and more tech. We can’t wait to get behind the wheel of both options.
