When is the 2023 Kia Niro available?

In January 2022, Kia announced that the 2023 Kia Niro compact crossover SUV would be available in South Korea that month. The 2023 Niro should be available in the United States and internationally later in 2022. 

How much does the 2023 Kia Niro cost?

Kia didn’t yet release the price information for the 2023 Niro. However, given the redesign and feature upgrades, the 2023 Niro will likely cost slightly more than the 2022 Niro. The 2022 Niro ranges from $24,690 MSRP for the base LX trim up to $44,650 MSRP for the Niro EV EX Premium trim.

2023 Kia Niro specs: Hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric powertrains

Like the 2022 Niro, the 2023 Niro will offer three powertrain options: a hybrid (HEV) powertrain for the standard Niro model, a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain for the Niro PHEV, and an all-electric powertrain for the Niro EV.

The Niro HEV combines power from a 1.6-liter GDI gasoline engine and a 32kW permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. Mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, the hybrid powertrain generates a total system output of 139 hp.

At first, the South Korean automaker only released the specs for the 2023 Niro HEV. On April 13, 2022, Kia announced specs for the 2023 Niro PHEV and 2023 Niro EV. All 2023 Niro models will have a Green Zone Drive Mode feature. With Green Zone Drive Mode, the crossover SUV automatically switches to electric power in certain driving situations. Examples include residential areas and when driving near hospitals and schools.

Exterior design and color options of the 2023 Kia Niro

The exterior of the 2023 Niro features Kia’s new Tiger Face design theme that was first previewed on the HabiNiro concept and revealed on the redesigned 2023 Sportage. At the front, the 2023 Niro blends modernistic design elements, such as the “heartbeat” daytime running lights, with rugged design cues, such as plastic cladding and a skid plate. At the rear, notable design features include a heartbeat-shaped rear reflector, verticle LED taillights, and a lower bumper with an integrated skid plate.

2023 Kia Niro: Interior design, features, and trim color options

Relative to the 2022 Niro, the cabin of the 2023 Niro has a more upscale and modernistic design. Highlights include 74-color ambient lighting, as well as an off-center dashboard that wraps around the front passengers.

Other notable interior features in the crossover SUV include a 10.25-inch panoramic display, an electronic dial-type shift lever, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and a large-capacity cupholder tray. For the upholstery, the Niro features recycled materials, such as wallpaper, and natural fibers, such as eucalyptus leaves.
