2023 Kia Rio: Trims, Expected Pricing, and Specs
The subcompact segment may be small, but resilient cars like the Kia Rio still exist. The Rio is the South Korean automaker’s smallest car and it continues to provide buyers with a cheap but practical way to get around town. For anyone looking to purchase a 2023 Kia Rio, here is what we can expect for the release date, pricing, and specs of the upcoming model.
When will the 2023 Kia Rio make its debut?
As of this writing, there is no official word as to when the 2023 Kia Rio will make its debut. However, we expect that it should show up by the end of summer, if not the early part of the fourth quarter of this year. The ongoing supply chain issues hold back production.
How much will the 2023 Kia Rio be?
Some sources, like Kelley Blue Book, estimate that the 2023 Kia Rio should be priced similar to the current model. In that case, the new iteration should come with a base price of around $16,500, which makes it one of the most affordable cars on the market. Its low price point also makes the Rio one of the easiest choices for college students or those in need of basic transportation to get around town.
Buyers currently have two different Rio body styles to choose from – sedan or hatchback – and both are priced slightly differently. The Rio 5-door hatchback carries a slightly higher price tag of around $17,500 and is only available in an S trim level. On the other hand, the four-door sedan is available in two trim levels – LX and S.
2023 Kia Rio changes, updates, and specs
Aside from some minor cosmetic updates, we expect the features from the current Kia Rio to carry over. The most notable standard features on the Rio LX include wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto phone integration, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a USB port, and all the basic power amenities you need.
The S trim level on both body styles includes a sliding center armrest, 60/40 sliding rear seats, a rear USB charger, cruise control, and a remote keyless entry system. Those wanting more modern equipment should opt for the Technology package that adds LED headlights, 15-inch wheels, auto climate control, a push-button start, and satellite radio.
Autotrader notes that the package includes many safety features like automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, auto high beams, and a driver attention warning. If anything, we would like to see the new 2023 Rio include these safety features as standard equipment, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Is it worth it to buy a 2022 Kia Rio or wait for the 2023 model?
If you’re currently in dire need of a new car, then the 2022 Kia Rio has enough tech and brings enough value to the table for us to recommend buying it now. However, if you can wait to see what the new model has to offer, which could include a host of new standard features, then the 2023 Kia Rio could be a better choice.
