The 2023 Land Rover Discovery Gets New Metropolitan Edition
The 2023 Land Rover Discovery just got a brand new range-topping model. The Metropolitan Edition gets a few extras that other Discovery models don’t have. Though the entire Discovery lineup has received new features and updates across the board. What are these new features, and what makes the Metropolitan Edition worth the extra cash?
2023 Land Rover Discovery Metropolitan Edition
The Metropolitan Edition gains a few different visual enhancements to make sure everyone knows it is the top trim. Bright detailing on the radiator grille, silver bumper inserts, 22-inch diamond-turned gloss gray allow wheels, black brake calipers, and a massive “DISCOVERY” text written across the hood make this new edition stand out from the pack.
Standard Metropolitan Edition Discovery models will also feature a heated steering wheel, power-operated third-row seats, and a head-up display. It comes with only one engine option, a 3.0 liter V6 with 48-volt hybrid assistance capable of producing up to 335-horsepower. The Discovery Metropolitan Edition’s towing capacity is shockingly impressive at 8,200 pounds. This variant of the Land Rover Discovery will start at $76,600, notching it above the previously most expensive model, the R-Dynamic HSE.
What’s new for all 2023 Land Rover Discovery models?
The Metropolitan Edition is a great new addition to the lineup, but what is new with the other models? There are some new features coming to the entire lineup. With those new features comes a price increase, unfortunately. The P300 entry-level Discovery model will now start at $2,700 more than the previous model year. Though it does gain some valuable technology.
New to the Land Rover Discovery for 2023 is standard wireless charging, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, and a Meridian audio system. The base model comes with all of this, which is a very welcomed change. Though the starting price for the Discovery is now $57,950. That’s not too expensive quite yet, but the more features you add the more expensive it will be.
How does it compare to the competition?
Using the base models for both, U.S. News & World Report compares the 2022 Land Rover Discovery to the 2022 Audi Q7. The Discovery immediately has the advantage as it starts at a lower price. The fuel economy is virtually identical for the two vehicles, and both are listed as negative attributes. The two SUVs possess an average city mpg of just 19. Both of these vehicles also have cramped, tiny third-row seats, according to U.S. News.
Both have features that come standard that the other does not. For instance, the Discovery comes with lane-keeping assist, remote engine start, and a dual moonroof. Other optional features in the Discovery are completely unavailable in the Audi Q7. These include cooled driver and rear seats, heated rear seats, a premium sound system, seat massager, adaptive cruise control, and more.
The Land Rover Discovery has been a solid SUV option for years. Those who want to have plenty of space for storage and passengers, and even gain some off-road capability find it to be a great vehicle. The new Metropolitan Edition further cements the Discovery to the top of the segment. The exterior visual upgrades make it look premium and luxurious, while the many new amenities give it that extra feeling of comfort.
The 2023 Land Rover Discovery Metropolitan Edition is available to order right now, according to CarAndDriver.
