What’s new with the 2023 Mazda CX-30?
According to Kelley Blue Book, there are a few changes to the 2023 Mazda CX-30 from 2022. Fortunately, unlike many other models, most changes aren’t completely cosmetic. First, the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine now has an additional five horsepower, topping it out at 191 hp. KBB says most reviewers call the CX-30 the perfect subcompact SUV “for those who love to drive,” which makes added horsepower a critical bonus.
Next, the same engine got a little more fuel-efficient for the new model year. Using improved cylinder deactivation technology, it’s now EPA-certified for 26 mpg in the city and 33 on the highway. In comparison, the 2022 CX-30 was rated for 24 mpg in the city and 31 on the highway, slightly worse on all fronts.
Finally, the 2023 Mazda CX-30 has new rear-side airbags, new seatbelt pretensioners, and a shin pad for the front and rear door trims. Furthermore, the only other significant changes come in pricing, which is only a bit higher than the 2022 model year.
How much is a 2023 Mazda CX-30?
The price is one of the best things about the new and improved Mazda subcompact SUV. Starting at $22,950, the CX-30 2.5 S is the base model that’s one of the most affordable in its class. In line with rivals, it only reaches just over $35,000 with the fully-loaded trim. Furthermore, one change worth noting is that the more powerful engine is further out of reach now. For the 2023 model year, Mazda removed the Turbo trim from the lineup. Previously, it was the cheapest way to get the 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Now, you’ll have to opt for the Turbo Premium model to get 250 horsepower.

An affordable 2023 Mazda CX-30 is surprisingly well-equipped
Although the bottom-tier 2023 Mazda CX-30 trims are affordable, it makes you think they’d be ill-equipped. However, every CX-30 includes plenty of standard features. That’s why we think it’s an underrated subcompact SUV. Moreover, one of the best things about the model is standard all-wheel drive. Unlike many rivals, AWD is standard across the board, eliminating the need to pay extra for the feature.
According to Edmunds, things like LED headlights, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and an eight-speaker audio system are included. Furthermore, it’s fantastic that the driver assist and safety features are also standard. For example, forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, drowsy driver monitor, and automatic high beams.
Underrated affordability with the CX-30
In conclusion, the 2023 Mazda CX-30 provides underrated affordability. We think the subcompact SUV isn’t talked about enough, but it provides many excellent features for a low price. Standard all-wheel drive, a smooth and punchy engine, and more for under $23,000 is outstanding. Contrarily, the top of the lineup features even more. In short, the $35,000 CX-30 gets a more powerful engine and many more features that seem worth the price.
