The 2023 Mazda CX-9 offers plenty of value at different trim levels. Car and Driver recommends the CX-9 Touring base model because it’s affordable with great standard features.

The CX-9 starts at $38,750. It uses a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine to make 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The midsize SUV achieves 20 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway.

The 2023 Mazda CX-9 comes standard with all-wheel drive, off-road traction assist, and Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go. It also includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, an advanced keyless entry and start system, and a power sliding-glass moonroof with one-touch open.

The midsize SUV includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, and hill launch assist. It also comes with lane-keep assist, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a wireless phone charger. The 2023 Mazda CX-9 Touring is the best trim for families because of its excellent value proposition. While upper trim levels come with more standard features, many consumers will choose affordability over additional creature comforts.

Is the Mazda CX-9 fuel efficient?

The Mazda CX-9 isn’t very fuel efficient. That being said, most of the best midsize SUVs on the market aren’t particularly good on gas. The popular Kia Telluride has the same gas mileage as the CX-9.

The 2023 Mazda CX-9 has a 19.5-gallon tank. It gets about 448 miles of driving range on a full tank of gas. The CX-9 costs about $73.07 to refuel based on the national average gas price as of September 27th, 2022.

Mazda’s midsize SUV isn’t a gas guzzler, but it definitely isn’t the most fuel-efficient midsize SUV. The Toyota Highlander Hybrid gets 36 miles per gallon in the city and 35 miles per gallon on the highway. It starts at $39,555.

Which year of the CX-9 is best?

Recent Mazda CX-9 model years have been reliable. The last five CX-9 model years have less than three complaints listed respectively on CarComplaints.com. CarComplaints lists the 2012, 2011, and 2010 model years as the most problematic CX-9 model years.

If you’re looking for a great used Mazda CX-9, Kelley Blue Book claims that the 2018 CX-9 has a fair purchase price of $20,811 with 65,000 miles and under. The 2018 Mazda CX-9 got an Editor’s Choice award from Car and Driver and was featured on its 10 Best list.

The 2018 Mazda CX-9 is a great used SUV for the money. The midsize SUV should last for a total of 200,000 miles when well maintained.
