The electrification movement from Mercedes-Benz expands to the SUV realm with the all-electric 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. It shares the platform and many of the same components as the electric EQS luxury sedan, but with a more spacious interior and an optional third row. Find out what we know so far about the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV will likely be available in late 2022. The 2023 EQS SUV will be available at Mercedes-Benz dealerships throughout the United States, as well as in select international markets.

How much does the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV cost?

Mercedes-Benz did not yet share that or the trim information for the 2023 EQS SUV. However, Car and Driver speculates that 2023 EQS SUV will mirror the trim lineup of the EQS sedan. The publication estimates the following for the EQS SUV trims:

  • EQS450+: $114,000
  • EQS580: $130,000

While not yet confirmed by Mercedes-Benz, the electric powertrains of the 2023 EQS SUV will probably be similar, if not identical, to the EQS sedan. For the EQS450+, this translates to a single electric motor at the rear wheels that generates an output of 329 hp. The EQS580 will likely have two electric motors (one at the front and one at the rear), with an output of 516 hp and 631 lb-ft of torque.

One of the differences between the EQS SUV and EQS sedan on the performance front is the Off-Road drive mode. It raises the suspension and changes the behavior of the powertrain. Car and Driver rode on a prototype version of the EQS SUV, traveling on rugged terrain with the Off-Road mode activated, and were “impressed with the vehicle’s capabilities.”

When Car and Driver went for a ride-along in the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, a camouflage wrap was still on the vehicle, so they had a limited view of the exterior. However, the EQS SUV will likely have much of the same exterior design elements as the EQS sedan, but with SUV proportions.

The interior of the EQS SUV was fully undisguised, though. Despite being a pre-production model, the quality of the fit and finish of the interior is very high. The EQS SUV’s cabin looks very similar to the EQS SUV, except for the optional third row, along with more headroom.

The standard dashboard design of the EQS SUV is different from the one that will offer a massive 56-inch Hyperscreen. It is essentially a “giant glass panel stretching from door to door with multiple screens hidden behind the glass.” Also, the EQS SUV has many storage spaces, including a large compartment below the floating center console.

We’ll know much more about the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV when it makes its debut on April 19, 2022.
