Does the 2023 Mini Cooper Have Apple CarPlay?
The Mini Cooper has a devoted following. Its quirky design appeals to many drivers, and its small size makes it a good commuter car. Its price is a little high for a subcompact, but most critics agree the interior is above-average. Mini includes a fair number of features for the price, but what about Apple CarPlay? Fortunately, the 2023 Mini Cooper doesn’t disappoint.
Overview of the 2023 Mini Cooper
The Mini Cooper is a front-wheel-drive-only car with three available turbocharged engine options. A 1.5-liter turbo-three, capable of 134 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque, comes in the standard trim. It pairs with a six-speed manual transmission.
The standard Signature trim also includes 16-inch wheels, but you can get 17-inchers with the optional Cooper S engine. This one makes 189 hp and 206 lb-ft of torque. According to Mini, a Cooper with this engine can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds.
The most powerful engine is in the John Cooper Works model, producing 228 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque. It has a starting price of $40,325 and can be paired only with the range-topping Iconic trim. This fully loaded model also includes a panoramic sunroof, dampening control, and wheels up to 18 inches.
With the JCW engine, the car can hit 60 mph in just under 6 seconds. Mini also offers two automatic transmissions: an eight-speed and a dual-clutch seven-speed.
The 2023 Mini Cooper can seat four riders, and it’s available in two-door and four-door configurations. The faux-leather seats are comfortable, but the back row in this subcompact car is predictably cramped.
The Cooper’s eager handling makes this hatchback fun to drive regardless of the engine. Just be prepared for a bumpy ride — the suspension is overly firm.
Does the 2023 Mini Cooper have Apple CarPlay?
Mini confirms Apple CarPlay is standard on the Cooper starting this model year. With this feature, you can access your iPhone’s apps and other functions from the center touchscreen. You’ll have to connect your device with a USB cable because the 2023 Mini Cooper doesn’t offer wireless CarPlay.
This new upgrade means 2023 Cooper drivers will also get to enjoy the latest Apple CarPlay improvements. You’ll soon be able to configure your car’s climate settings and radio controls through CarPlay. You can also check the weather or important vehicle diagnostics, such as the current speed.
This update will also allow Apple CarPlay to display on every screen in your vehicle, including the gauge cluster. Apple says we can expect these new features toward the end of next year.
What other standard tech can you find in the 2023 model?
The 2023 Mini Cooper now has a modern digital gauge cluster and an upgraded 8.8-inch touchscreen. Android Auto still isn’t available, but Android users can still pair their phones to the infotainment system through Bluetooth. HD/satellite radio comes on the base model.
The Mini Cooper Iconic trim gets a standard wireless charging pad, a head-up display, and a navigation function. Advanced driver-assist features on all trims include forward emergency braking/collision warning, lane departure warning, and rear parking sensors. A set of parking sensors for the front is available, as are cruise control and guided parking assist.
According to AutoEvolution, the 2023 Mini Cooper has received numerous new aesthetic options this year. You can now have a two-toned model with a different roof color (red, white, or blue). There are also three new interior upholstery colors, one of which has a checked pattern.
