The 2023 Nissan Armada Is Falling Behind
Like all modern vehicles, the 2023 Nissan Armada was released in the Fall of 2022. Coming out a few months before 2023 gives the automaker time to work out the kinks, get some sales in early, and swap leases with customers for the end of the calendar year. As a result, Armada sales are reflected for both model years in the 2022 Q4 sales report. Unfortunately, the full-size SUV is falling behind rivals for a few reasons, which is shown in its sales figures.
2023 Nissan Armada: 2022 Q4 sales
For the final quarter of 2022, the Nissan Armada fell short of its competitors. According to GoodCarBadCar, the full-size SUV sold 3,294 units, down from 4,131 the year before during the same period. While it isn’t the worst imagine sales numbers, it is a far cry from the biggest rivals in the segment. For example, the popular Chevy Tahoe sold 31,122 units during the fourth quarter of 2022. Additionally, 22,760 customers took home the similar GMC Yukon. Ford was even able to move 20,400 of the much-improved Expedition off its lots before the end of 2022.
In comparison, the 2023 Nissan Armada is falling behind. Although it’s never sold as well as some of these other full-size SUVs, it hasn’t improved much in recent years. Additionally, the Armada is fresh off of a redesign in 2021, meaning we’re unlikely to see another for quite a while. Some features and even design decisions make the Armada fall short of its best-selling rivals.
The 2023 Nissan Armada has an outdated powertrain and styling
Some of the primary reasons customers aren’t interested in a new 2023 Nissan Armada are the powertrain and styling. On the one hand, its standard engine drives smoothly and provides impressive towing capacity. On the other hand, the potent 5.6-liter V8 gets abysmal fuel economy. Unfortunately, it seems like the 400 horsepower, 413 lb-ft of torque, and 8,500-pound towing capacity aren’t enough to outweigh the 14 city/19 highway mpg. Competitors offer alternative powertrain options and even some hybrid variants for those seeking something different.
Next, the interior and exterior remain outdated visually. Although the model was updated a few years ago, it didn’t change enough to even be noticeable to most. Car and Driver say third-row legroom is lacking compared to its rivals. Additionally, the comfortable and fancy interior has a front dash that looks more like its competitors’ last-gen versions. Furthermore, the exterior is still a boxy, squared-off model with chrome trim pieces that stand out (in a bad way, we think). The Nissan would benefit from taking on a more modern and even rugged look, similar to the latest Toyota Sequoia.
How the Nissan Armada is falling behind
In conclusion, the 2023 Nissan Armada is falling behind other full-size SUVs. As one of the most popular names in the segment, it’s astounding how low its sales numbers are compared to other titans of the class. Overall, the Armada lacks powertrain options, and the exterior/interior designs seem outdated. With rival models, customers get more options, a more modern look, and similar performance and luxuriousness.
