The 2023 Nissan Rogue Midnight Edition Adds a Little Spice
The Nissan Rogue is a class-leading compact SUV. A redesign for the 2021 model year and newer updates help the Rogue topple compact SUV class leaders like the Volkswagen Tiguan, Subaru Forester, and Hyundai Tucson. The latest update, the addition of the 2023 Nissan Rogue Midnight Edition to the SV trim level, features a blacked-out look to the already sporty Rogue.
The Nissan Rogue keeps getting better
The website Cars publishes an annual compact SUV comparison where up until recently, the Rogue placed near the bottom. That all changed when the freshly-redesigned 2021 Nissan Rogue stormed onto the scene with best-in-class “rear seat comfort and features, vehicle user interface (how users interact with the vehicle’s controls), multimedia (media feature offerings), and in-cabin storage.”
While the 2021 Nissan Rogue, featuring a 181-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder, previously tied with the Hyundai Tucson for first place in the “powertrain category,” Nissan introduced a new engine design for the 2022 model year. The new turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder, producing 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque, carries over to power the 2023 Rogue in front-wheel and all-wheel drivetrains.
2023 Nissan Rogue Midnight Edition
After the 2021 model year redesign and the all-new engine for 2022, the addition of the Midnight Edition Package may not seem like big news for the 2023 Nissan Rogue. However, the Midnight Edition Package boasts some appearance and convenience features that push the Rogue further ahead of the competition by firming up some categories it struggled in.
While the 2021 Rogue performed well against the competition in “rear-seat comfort,” the Midnight Edition increases interior comfort and convenience by adding leatherette upholstery, heated front seats and steering wheel, a panoramic moonroof, and a power liftgate. Adding to the Rogue’s sporty appearance, the Midnight Edition Package includes:
- Black 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels
- Black roof rails
- A black front grille
- Unique black exterior badges
All 2023 Nissan Rogue trims include Nissan’s Safety Shield 360. Safety Shield 360 is a set of high-tech active safety features that include:
- Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
- Lane departure warning
- Blind spot warning
- Headlight high beam assist
- Rear cross-traffic alert
- Automatic rear braking
- forward collision warning
Standard infotainment features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on an 8-inch touchscreen or an optional 9-inch touchscreen.
Is the Midnight Edition Package worth the money?
A base model front-wheel drive 2023 Nissan Rogue S starts at $28,655, including a $1,295 destination fee. However, the $4,195 Midnight Edition Package is only available on the Rogue SV trim, starting at $30,345. Opting for all-wheel drive adds $1,500 regardless of desired trim, except the SV trimmed Midnight Edition Package is only available in front-wheel drive.
Higher trim levels, such as the SL and Platinum, include Nissan’s ProPilot Assist as either optional or standard equipment and Amazon Alexa connectivity. The 2023 Nissa Rogue SL carries a starting MSRP of $35,005, while the higher-end Platinum-trimmed Rogue starts at $38,435. A well-appointed 2023 Nissan Rogue Platinum with all-wheel drive prices out around $42,000, using Nissan’s online tool.
The Midnight Edition Package offers several unique features that set it apart from the crowd of compact SUV crossovers at a reasonable price bump from the standard SV trim. However, if you want a Rogue with all-wheel drive and Nissan’s ProPilot Assist, it is worth considering the Rogue SL trim with the additional SL Premium Package for an additional $3,000 over the SV Midnight Edition.
