The 2023 Nissan Titan Has 6 Impressive Standard Safety Features
Although an outlier in the full-size pickup truck segment, the 2023 Nissan Titan is packed with impressive standard features. Hosting comfortable seats, a spacious interior, and a 400-horsepower V8, it has the credentials to mount a fair fight against its competition. Since Nissan places a high priority on protection, the new Titan also provides drivers with a slew of standard safety features. The following six—part of Nissan’s Safety Shield 360—will ensure this full-size pickup puts drivers’ welfare first.
1. Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection
Since pickup trucks weigh more, they typically take longer to stop. Nissan’s automatic emergency braking will supervise the speed and distance between the Titan and the vehicle in front. It will let the driver know if they need to brake to maintain a minimum distance or automatically engage the brakes. Moreover, if the system detects a pedestrian crossing in front of the truck, it’ll bring the Titan to a dead stop.
2. Blind-spot warning
A drawback to the 2023 Nissan Titan is its blind spots. The beefy roof pillars and large rear seat headrests obstruct the driver’s line of sight to the back and sides. Nissan says the Titan’s blind-spot warning will notify the driver with an indicator on the information display when a vehicle is in the adjacent lane. If drivers activate the turn signal, the system alerts the driver with a chime and continuously flashes the indicator light to help the driver avoid a potential collision.
3. High-beam headlight assist
Many may brace for oncoming traffic cresting a hill for the inevitable blinding by high-beam headlights. Fortunately, the 2023 Nissan Titan won’t be one of them. Its high beam assist function can automatically deactivate if an oncoming vehicle is detected. Moreover, Nissan says it will also turn on the high beams when the driver needs them.
4. Lane departure warning
Tired drivers traveling home late in the evening may be tired, but the Titan will help keep them between the lines. The lane departure warning system will alert drivers if it detects drifting in the lane. If it’s a bit too annoying, however, it can be shut off.
5. Rear automatic braking
Despite a rearview camera as standard, the 2023 Nissan Titan has a secondary measure to mitigate potential rear damage. The system monitors behind the truck for unseen stationary items. It will apply the brakes to avoid or lessen the severity of a collision, like a good spotter on a construction site.
6. Rear cross-traffic alert
Backing the Titan out of a parking spot can be tough since the blind-spot warning only works in forward gears. Yet, rear cross-traffic alert watches for passersby that could be hidden behind those large roof pillars. It helps in both crowded mall parking lots and chaotic job sites.
Other available safety features for the 2023 Nissan Titan
The base 2023 Nissan Titan S comes with all the standard safety features mentioned above. The Titan SV gains driver-attention monitoring and front and rear parking sensors. With the Pro-4X, potential buyers can access adaptive cruise control, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and traffic sign recognition. Those seeking the glamorous, range-topping Titan Platinum Reserve will get a surround-view parking camera system.
What about crash safety ratings?
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2023 Nissan Titan the highest rating of “Good” in five out of six crash tests. But that’s for the crew cab Titan. The extended cab received a “Good” rating in four out of five categories. Both configurations received the second-highest rating of “Acceptable” in the small overlap front passenger-side test.
Tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration reveal a four-star rating for the 2023 Nissan Titan. However, the front passenger-side test netted the truck just three out of five stars. Nevertheless, the Titan’s Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite should alleviate concerns about potential collisions or tiresome drivers.
