Although it is not the most popular full-size truck, the Nissan Titan is carried on for the 2023 model year. Rumor has it that Nissan plans to kill of this pickup, but apparently not before giving it a price hike. The starting MSRP of the base 2022 Titan was $38,810. But now, that same truck is priced at $39,700. This is despite no major changes or additions. So, is the 2023 Nissan Titan still worth buying?

Should you buy a 2023 Nissan Titan?

Depending on your specific needs, the 2023 Nissan Titan is a decent full-size truck. Each model comes equipped with a 5.6-liter V8 engine that makes 400 horsepower and 413 pound-foot of torque. Because of that, you do not have to pay extra for the power of eight cylinders. The downside is there is not really a fuel-efficient option for the Titan. And other manufacturers like Ford give their pickups plenty of engine options.

The V8 engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. But this Nissan transmission has been known to be problematic. Hopefully, those problems will get resolved at some point though.

Why is the Nissan Titan expensive?

Prices for the Titan were raised across the board, and it is a little unclear why that is. As you climb up the trims, some models have increased in price by over $1,000. Although there have been price hikes, Nissan has not given any major updates to this full-size truck. And if the rumors are true, that Nissan is planning to kill it off, that is a bit of a disappointment.

In terms of changes, the Titan PRO-4X does get wireless Apple CarPlay. And the only other major addition is the optional Midnight Edition which you can get on the Crew Cab SV model. Even that package just adds some blacked-out trim through this pickup.

Will Nissan redesign the Titan?

It is fairly unlikely that we will see a redesigned Titan before Nissan kills its full-size truck. The Titan is currently in its second generation, which was introduced back in 2016. According to Car and Driver, it makes a better work truck than a luxury family hauler like the new Ram 1500. If Nissan wanted to, it could probably make the Titan better.

When Nissan brought the Frontier into its third generation, it made some vast improvements. Now, the 2023 Nissan Frontier is one of the better-selling mid-size trucks. Clearly, the brand does understand what it takes to build a competent pickup.

Why are Nissan Titans not selling?

Simply put, Nissan does not have the same cachet as brands like Ford and Toyota. Models like the F-150 and Tundra are seen as the full-size trucks to have. And that 2023 Titan just doesn’t offer that. There is no Raptor competitor, and that Titan can feel a little dated.

In 2023, Nissan sold under 30,000 Titan trucks. That’s not a very impressive number. And it is likely why this full-size truck will be leaving dealerships soon.
