Is the 2023 Nissan Z a Good Sports Car? Cars.com Hit the Road to Find Out
Cars website recently reviewed the 2023 Nissan Z, one of the new sports cars coming out next year. The starting MSRP of slightly over $40,000 gets you 400 hp, an average of 18 mpg in the city and up to 24 mpg on the highway. So, what did Cars website like about the new Nissan Z, and is it a car worth buying?
Base price
The base price of the new Nissan Z is a reasonable deal compared to the competition. Cars website compared the cost to the Toyota Supra and noted that while there was a big jump in price from the base trim of the Nissan Z to the Performance trim, that price is still lower than the 6-cylinder Supra 3.0.
Cockpit design
One of the more aesthetic features they liked was the cockpit design, which still had some design influences that carried over from previous cabin designs. Incorporating more technology features, such as Apple CarPlay, a 9-inch touch screen, and a triple pod gauge cluster, made the interior a comfortable area. They also loved the tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, as it accommodates taller drivers.
Engine power of the 2023 Nissan Z
The engine is also pleasing for sports car fans as it has up to 400 hp, with a twin-turbocharged V6 3.0-liter engine. The engine’s 350 lb-ft of torque allows for efficient and smooth driving.
Retro homage
Modern with hints of the past. They pointed out that some of the design elements of the new Nissan Z pay homage to earlier Z cars but don’t rely on nostalgia to make sales. Instead, the combined elements create a clean, modern, and stylish look that uses the details to make something familiar yet new.
Transmission
Cars website mainly liked that the manufacturers for the 2023 Nissan Z gave consumers the option between choosing a six-speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission. They pointed out that sports car lovers would choose the manual transmission for driving engagement and fun. In contrast, those more focused on performance, or who couldn’t drive a car with a manual transmission, would be better off selecting the version with automatic transmission.
One of the things they disliked about the 2023 Nissan Z
At this time, the publication has not yet tested the base trim on the roads but has driven two Performance trim models. Both times, they noticed the road noise, especially on the coarse pavement, due to the combination of the wheels and the rubber tires used on the car. Since they hadn’t tested the base trim, they’re uncertain whether it’s an issue with the Performance trim or with the new Nissan Z in its entirety.
Is the 2023 Nissan Z worth buying?
Based on the information available about the new Nissan Z, purchasing this car would be worth it. Whether you prefer an automatic or the feeling of manually shifting gears, there are a lot of sports car enthusiasts to love. While it does have a small, shallow area for cargo storage, nobody buys a sports car to carry things around town. The price is excellent, especially compared to other sports cars. As for road noise, it depends on the preferences of the driver.
