Although the Solterra was already announced, the official reveal doesn’t take place until November 17.
How to watch the 2023 Subaru Solterra reveal
The official reveal will take place live at the Long Angeles Auto Show on November 17. The reveal will be live-streamed starting at 10:45 AM PT on Wednesday morning. Those interested can sign up for updates on the vehicle via Subaru’s website. This will keep you up to date on any new announcements as well as any live stream availability.
Signing up for updates from Subaru about the new EV requires a name, email, and zip code. You can bet on receiving marketing emails if you sign up. However, that’s a small price to pay to be among the first to see Subaru’s first-ever electric SUV revealed.
What we know so far
There isn’t a ton of information available about the automaker’s new electric offering. We do know that Subaru claims it to be the “first EV SUV that is off-road and all-weather capable.” Every model comes with standard all-wheel drive and enough ground clearance to make off-roading possible. The focus on exploration, adventure, and zero emissions are undeniable with the presently available marketing.
Subaru intends on enhancing its “outdoorsy” lineup with a capable EV. Most electric SUVs have failed to market in this way. The only other EVs with a heavy focus on off-roading are trucks like the Rivian R1T and Ford Lightning.
How similar is the 2023 Subaru Solterra to the Toyota bZ4x?
If the 2023 Subaru Solterra truly is a reskinned bZ4x, then we know more about it than we think. Official pricing has not been announced for the 2022 Toyota bZ4x, but we expect it to start at around $37,000. The available $7,500 EV federal tax credit makes it an even more affordable SUV. Though these numbers aren’t official, the Solterra will likely have a similar starting price.
Toyota’s offering comes standard with front-wheel drive, but Subaru’s is all-wheel standard. The AWD option for the bZ4x gives it a dual motor setup making 215 hp. In addition, its 0-to-60 mph time is 7.7 seconds, which is nothing to write home about. It falls far short of electric SUVs of similar size, like the Tesla Model Y. It’s safe to assume the Solterra will be nearly identical to the bZ4x’s speed and power.
The 2023 Subaru Solterra will go on sale sometime in 2022, according to the automaker. It will be officially revealed in detail on November 17 at the LA Auto Show. Though Subaru’s website doesn’t mention a live stream of the reveal, it will likely be available via the site or its YouTube channel. Until then, we’ll have to wait and see just how similar the new Subaru EV is to its platform partner.
