The fully-loaded 2023 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro starts at $54,620, but it does come pretty well equipped. For off-road capability and on-road comfort, the 4Runner has it all figured out. Even though it isn’t the most updated vehicle on the road, its methods are tried and true.

How does the Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro differ from the 40th Anniversary?

To celebrate 40 years of the Toyota 4Runner, the 40th Anniversary Special Edition is available alongside the TRD Pro. It starts at $47,720 this year and gets some cool retro details. Toyota added 17-inch bronze wheels and the same 4×4 with part-time four-wheel drive.

The 40th Anniversary also has a skid plate in the front and roof rails for added utility. You will notice the retro stripes along the outside of the 4Runner and some other bronze emblems to match the wheels. A bronze-colored “40th Anniversary” interior emblem on the dash dictates that each one is only one of 4,040 models made.

You can’t go wrong with the shape and design of the 4Runner, with plenty of space throughout the cabin. If that isn’t enough, the roof rack allows you to add more cargo up top.

If you get the 4Runner TRD Pro wheels, those are 17-inch TRD alloy wheels with P265/70R17 A/T tires, but there are various options. The 40th Anniversary Special Edition are bronze 17-inch wheels with P265/70R17 tires. On the base model, Toyota included 17-inch six-spoke wheels. For those who opt for one of the other trim levels, 20-inch six-spoke wheels with P245/60R20 tires are also available.

There are many reasons to like the 4Runner, and it remains a best-seller even after 40 years on the market. Toyota’s midsize SUV is due for an update soon, though it has not been confirmed yet. Either way, the 2023 4Runner TRD Pro and 40th Anniversary additions will likely hold value well in the future. With such long history of reliability behind it, people are always willing to pay more for quality.
