Most Toyota cars have safety dialed in pretty well from the start, and the 2023 Toyota Corolla is no exception. A few features that improve the Toyota Corolla are the standard Pre-Collision System, eight standard airbags, and LED projector headlights. Thanks to Toyota’s commitment to safety, the 2023 Toyota Corolla offers peace of mind for both drivers and passengers, making it an excellent value for those seeking a secure and reliable sedan.

The 2023 Toyota Corolla is a safe car, one of the many safe years in its history. Toyota has always been a leader in standard safety features, adopting systems like automatic emergency braking early. Now, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is keeping that reputation. The newest version of this system adds:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Road Sign Assist
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Lane Tracing Assist

Two available but not standard systems are Blind Spot Monitoring and Front and Rear Parking Assist. Toyota includes eight airbags around the cabin along with Toyota’s Star Safety System for added stability and traction. Those airbags include the front, side, overhead, and knee areas to protect occupants in the case of a collision. The base model 2023 Corolla LE starts at $22,645, while the fully loaded XSE is $27,795.

We actually drove the 2023 Toyota Corolla XSE for a week earlier this year, which you can read about here. During our time with the XSE, Road Sign Assist and the Automatic High Beams were helpful during summer storms. The Corolla could read road signs easily, which was a surprising benefit.

Is the 2023 Toyota Corolla good in crashes?

The 2023 Toyota Corolla earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick award this year. It performed well on the main crashworthiness tests, like the small overlap, side, and roof strength segments. Toyota’s four-door sedan earned a lower score in the two updated tests, but that often happens when a test is more stringent.

The Corolla has LED projector headlights that provide good visibility. These headlights come standard on all trims and come with high-beam assist for better visibility on curves. On dark roads in the rain, the LED headlights and automatic high beams made it easier to see obstacles in the street.

In the new front crash prevention examination, the 2023 Toyota Corolla safety systems worked well to prevent a vehicle-to-pedestrian collision. The standard Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection was able to avoid collisions in all scenarios.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2023 Toyota Corolla a five-star overall safety rating. The Corolla proved to be a safe vehicle in the overall frontal, side, and rollover crash tests. The NHTSA also tests safety systems like Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Crash Imminent Braking. All of the technology met performance criteria and was included as standard. All of these make the Corolla easy to drive daily, and it remains an affordable option in a sea of ever-increasing prices.

The brand’s commitment to safety is evident through a comprehensive suite of active and passive safety features and advanced technology. These elements collectively make the Toyota Corolla a safe sedan that provides peace of mind for drivers and passengers, solidifying its status as a top choice in the segment.
