The Toyota Corolla received a pretty major facelift for 2023. While this isn’t a full redesign, the new model brings plenty of exciting changes. The best-selling Toyota Corolla seems to be determined to keep its crown as one of the most popular compact sedans/hatchbacks on the market. When will the 2023 Toyota Corolla be out?

The Corolla has long been one of the best cars for new drivers, and we’re betting that will continue with the new model.

Toyota hasn’t given a specific release for the new 2023 Corolla, but we’re estimating that it will go on sale in the third quarter of 2022—similar to the refreshed 2023 Toyota Camry. The line is expanding this year, with a 2023 Corolla L, LE, SE, XSE, and XLE; a 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE, Hybrid SE, and Hybrid XSE; and a 2023 Corolla SE Hatchback and XSE Hatchback.

Nightshade Special Edition models should be available for both the gas-powered sedan and the hatchback.

How much do we expect the 2023 Toyota Corolla to cost?

As one of the most reliable used cars, the Corolla is also typically one of the most affordable. We estimate that pricing for the 2023 model will be similar but perhaps slightly higher to the 2022 Corolla trim levels, which range from $20,425 for the L up to $26,325 starting for XSE.

Four new Corolla Hybrid models—with AWD available

One of the most exciting changes to the 2023 Corolla is under the skin of the hybrid model. This car receives an upgraded Hybrid System for the new year, reflecting the auto industry’s focus on hybrid and electric vehicles. 

The system continues to run on Toyota’s 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and two-motor setup, paired with an efficient CVT. However, the system has been retouched and improved for this year, for better performance. 

The 2023 Corolla Hybrid also has a brand-new option for the new year. For the first time ever, it will offer Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive, an option that isn’t even available on the larger Camry Hybrid. Now, buyers can choose from the Corolla Hybrid LE FWD and AWD, the SE FWD and AWD, and a premium new 2023 Corolla Hybrid XLE.

2023 Toyota Corolla specs, changes, and updates

The new Toyota Corolla now comes standard with the brand’s 169-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine on the base Corolla LE model. This change represents a change of 30 more horsepower than last year. However, it’s still plenty efficient. Toyota estimates that the new model should return up to 31 city/40 highway/34 combined mpg.

The full lineup of new 2023 Corolla models will also offer the next-generation Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 system. Last year’s model was named a Top Safety Pick+, and it’s likely that the new 2023 model will be, as well. 

Around the body, the refreshed Toyota Corolla shows new front fascia styling that’s a little different on each trim level. Across the board, the Corolla receives updated LED daytime running lights (DRL), with redesigned LED headlights on higher trim levels.

2023 Corolla sedan colors include White, Classic Silver Metallic, Celestite, Blueprint, Wind Chill Pearl, Ruby Flare Pearl, Underground, and Midnight Black Metallic. The latter two colors are new for 2023, and MBM is a brand-new dark paint option that replaces last year’s Black Sand Pearl color.

The Corolla hatchback offers most of the same exterior colors but adds Inferno and Blue Crush Metallic for 2023.

Should you buy a 2022 Toyota Corolla now, or wait for a 2023 model?

While a 2022 Corolla will offer overall similar features, cargo space, and styling, the upgrades for the 2023 model might be worth it. This is especially true if you’re considering a hybrid Corolla, which saw some significant changes for the new year. 

If you’ve had your eye on a gas-powered Corolla SE, XSE, or XLE and don’t care about price or fascia design, you’ll likely be able to find a similar range of features in a 2022 model for a slightly lower price. 

However, if you’re planning to buy a base-model Corolla LE, it’s worth it to wait and get the more powerful engine. And, if a hybrid is on your mind, you’ll definitely want to wait—you’ll have a greater selection of trim levels and options and an improved hybrid system.
