Is the Toyota Crown a sedan or an SUV? We’re not sure how much that exactly matters because it’s great either way. We’re finally learning more about the 2023 Toyota Crown, and it’s coming with an exciting amount of power.

What are the 2023 Toyota Crown engines?

The 2023 Toyota Crown is available with two different hybrid engines. The standard option is the Toyota fourth-generation hybrid system (TBS). It pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors and is similar to the system in the Toyota Sienna.

We don’t have the official numbers for this hybrid setup yet, but the Sienna cranks out 245 hp and 176 lb-ft of torque. Because the Crown is smaller than the Sienna, it could have better figures. Also, the Sienna gets an EPA-estimated 36 mpg combined.

The second setup is known as the Toyota Crown Hybrid Max, and it’s only available with the platinum trim. According to Pickup Truck Talk, it’s a brand new system that’s designed to be engaging and efficient.

It combines a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with two motors that are specifically designed to produce an increased power output. It provides 340 hp, which is a lot! Also, it should provide about 28 mpg.

The THS is paired with a continuously variable transmission, and the Hybrid Max has a direct-shift six-speed automatic transmission.

Also, the hybrid setup has an EV mode that allows electric-only driving to occur at low speeds over short distances.

Can the 2023 Crown go off-roading?

Maybe. The 2023 Toyota Crown is pretty much a crossover because it has a higher ride height than the average sedan. It’s about four inches higher than the Toyota Camry.

Plus, it comes with standard all-wheel drive, so it should be able to tackle slippery situations on the pavement.

The Crown is built on the Global K-GA platform that’s used with plenty of other sedans and SUVs. It rides on standard 19-inch wheels, but the Platinum trim has larger 21-inch wheels.

Lower trims come with the Toyota electric on-demand E-Four AWD system. The Platinum model gets the E-Four Advanced system.

Both use a separate rear-mounted motor to send power to the rear wheels as needed. The Advanced system has a rear-mounted eAxle to enhance rear-wheel drive maneuverability, handling, and straight-line stability.

Each Crown has a multi-strut front suspension and a multilink rear suspension. The Platinum model has adaptive dampers for an even smoother ride.

How much does the 2023 Crown Cost?

You can opt for a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, an 11-speaker JBL audio system, LED interior accent lighting, LED headlights, a digital key, rain-sensing wipers, and the Advanced Park System.
