Many automotive and racing enthusiasts were disappointed when Toyota announced that the rally-inspired GR Yaris would not be sold in the United States. However, American car enthusiasts will soon be able to buy an even more powerful hot hatch: the first-ever 2023 Toyota GR Corolla, which recently made its debut. When is the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla coming out?

The 2023 Toyota GR Corolla should be made available in Fall 2022. The GR Corolla will have a choice of two trims: Core and a limited run Circuit Edition. The Core trim will be available first, and the release date of the Circuit Edition will be in 2023. 

The 2023 GR Corolla will be available at Toyota dealerships throughout the U.S., as well as in select international markets.

How much does the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla cost?

Toyota didn’t yet release the price information of the 2023 GR Corolla. However, with its powerful engine and performance upgrades, the 2023 GR Corolla could cost considerably more than the standard Corolla Hatchback model. The starting price of the 2022 Corolla Hatchback ranges from $20,915 MSRP for the SE trim up to $23,865 MSRP for the XSE trim. 

2023 Toyota GR Corolla specs: Powerful 3-cylinder turbocharged engine

The 2023 Toyota GR Corolla greatly impresses on the performance front. It features a 1.6-liter 3-cylinder direct/port-injected turbocharged engine, which generates a mighty 300 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque. Driving purists will be pleased to know that all GR Corolla models have a six-speed manual transmission.

Toyota claims that it engineered the GR Crolla “for snappy acceleration out of the corners,” in which “output hits peak torque at 3000-5500 rpm, with max horsepower at 6500 rpm.” Also, the GR Corolla “pipes power through a unique triple exhaust designed to reduce backpressure for maximum power delivery.”

The powerful engine of the GR Corolla is paired with Toyota’s rally-developed GR-Four all wheel drive system. This system provides options for “60-40, 50-50, or 30-70 power distribution to the front and rear wheels.” 

2023 Toyota GR Corolla: Design features

Built on Toyota’s GA-C platform, the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla has a “broad hatch profile and a low center of gravity.” For the GR Corolla Core trim, exterior design features include a color-keyed roof, wide fender flares, GR-Four stamped side rockers, and a rear lip spoiler. Interior features include GR logoed fabric sport seats and the all-new touchscreen Toyota Audio Multimedia system.

The GR Corolla Circuit Edition trim builds upon the Core trim with a forged carbon fiber roof, a sporty rear spoiler, and a vented bulge hood. Interior features exclusive to the Circuit Edition trim include a Morizo signed shift knob and Brin Naub suede-trimmed sport seats with red accents. Morizo is the nickname for Akio Toyoda, the president of Toyota, and also an avid auto racing fan and driver.

Exterior paint color options for the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla include:
