The 2023 Toyota GR86 Special Edition Will Come in a Funky Solar Color
We love the 2022 Toyota GR86 and all of its fun-to-drive glory. The GR86’s responsive handling characteristics, attractive aesthetics, and rev-happy engine leave us at the edge of our seats as to what Toyota has planned for it in the future. Well, it looks like a special edition and a funky orange color is on order for the 2023 model year.
The 2023 Toyota GR86 Special Edition will be offered in an exclusive color
As if we couldn’t love the Toyota GR86’s looks enough, the Japanese automaker plans to produce a new Special Edition model for 2023. The 2023 Toyota GR86 Special Edition is modeled after the up-level Premium trim, so it will come with the duckbill spoiler, adaptive headlights, and heated seats. However, this special model will feature a bright Solar Shift orange paint color to spruce things up a bit.
To complement the exclusive color, Toyota added a GR performance cat-back exhaust system with stainless-steel pipes, black chrome tips, a black duckbill spoiler, and black 18-inch wheels. There’s also a black GR graphic on the C-pillar and inside, you’ll find a black Ultrasuede interior with a GR special edition badge.
The GR86 special edition will be offered in limited quantities
Much like the special-edition Scion vehicles that Toyota used to produce every now and then, the GR86 Special Edition will be offered in limited quantities. To be exact, only 860 units are expected to be produced. So if you like to stand out when driving down the road, or you just happen to be a big fan of orange cars, now is your chance. It doesn’t look like this color will be offered on the regular production models, as Autoblog notes.
Keep in mind that this special edition make-up is only an appearance package as everything else under the hood and beneath the fenders remains the same. For the uninformed, the Toyota GR86 is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.4-lited Boxer engine that makes 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. That powerplant transmits the power to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic or manual transmission. Of course, we recommend the latter for the most smiles per mile.
Pricing and release date have yet to be announced
If you’re looking to get your hands on one of these limited-run Toyota GR86s, then you’ll have to wait. Toyota hasn’t released pricing or a release date for the GR85 Special Edition just yet, however, we can imagine that you’ll need to sign up early for one.
Much like the special-edition Scions of the past, it’s been proven that a lot of Toyota buyers seem to like funky colors like purple, bright blue, and yellow. So, we wouldn’t be surprised if this Solar Shift color proves to be a hot commodity in the Toyota GR86 crowd. If anything, it sure does look unique and it’s certain to turn heads ad you drive by. Just be prepared to answer questions from curious onlookers at the gas station.
